British Jihadis Should Be Killed Says Rory Stewart

Probably because our justice system is fallible and gets it wrong from time to time and I would rather not execute an innocent person.

If they travelled from here to Syria, you can be fairly sure they are suspect enough to get rid of....

I would be amazed if intelligence wasn't used to await the arrival of some of the UK sourced Jihadists in Syria or wherever and to have them meet with an accident shortly after their arrival. That would be far more financially efficient than using a drone and a missile...I would doubt the military would publicise that sort of thing though...

I don't see why people are trying to sugar coat it. The article is pretty much spot on. They are a danger to the public and need to be removed. You can't reason with people who think it is acceptable to kill themselves, whilst trying to kill as many others as possible.

Only the UK could even contemplate allowing a situation where given the golden opportunity to rid the country of a jihadist who had left voluntarily to fight for our enemies (without al the human rights nonsense and protracted legal cases to rid ourselves of them) argue that we must allow them back in again and try and make them love us. Totally risible. Incredibly dangerous, and playing with the safety of our citizens on the back of politically correct ideologies from the liberal wets.

Who here is arguing that?

The article didn't say anything special. It said that people who have travelled east to fight against us should be killed. No one here disagrees, you are arguing a point against no one, while becoming enraged over a point that was never made. You are the exact the target for this brain dead article.

Someone made a point about killing prisoners, which the article is not about and a point was made that it is illegal to do so at the moment, regardless of peoples opinion about it.

Or alternatively when they try and use their passports to enter the country you arrest them, try them and then jail them. They're criminals, pure and simple.

The UK is after all a western democracy, not the Islamic State or North Korea.
And if all the evidence you have on them is that they travelled to Syria 5yrs ago? The issue is you won't be able to convict half of these people. There is no proof for a judge/jury to convict them of anything. Unfortunately as far as I'm aware it is not a crime to travel to Syria etc.

So they sit somewhere else, getting even more bitter and twisting the younger generation from wherever they end up to become even more bitter and twisted to the point of an entire new little subculture is built up around it.

Generally we caused the entire catastrophe that is the middle east (you could argue it was Russia and America actually)

The only sensible solution is if they want back its a life behind bars or working for the security services (somehow), its not about being soft, killing them is nothing but murder, much like the random drone strikes we have now.

Plenty of innocent people die in prison under our current system. Sometimes of old age; sometimes due to ill health; sometimes because they were murdered by their fellow inmates.

Yet I don't hear people arguing that we should stop incarcerating criminals because 'we sometimes get it wrong.'

General "Mad Dog" Mattis declared the US were going to become more focused on annihilating the caliphate, rather than allowing them to continually re-group:

“We have already shifted from attrition tactics where we shove them from one position to another in Iraq and Syria, to annihilation tactics where we surround them. Our intention is that the foreign fighters do not survive the fight to return home to North Africa, to Europe, to America, to Asia, to Africa. We’re not going to allow them to do so. We’re going to stop them there and take apart the caliphate,”

I rather suspect allowing Syrian fighters to return to the UK would be seen as sheer madness by him

This and only this, the world is already descending into right wing rhetoric of governments due to the failing of the ******** to acknowledge they can actually get things wrong oh and Tony Blair picking a fight due to American pressures.

And because God told them is was the right thing to do.

And the death penalty would make the situation worse not better.

Great idea, lock them up in prison, one of the main breeding grounds for Islamic extremism. If you are to lock them up, they should be kept isolated, away from impressionable young people. Frankly, I’d rather they were just blown up than ever setting foot back on UK soil just to suck up more taxpayers money. They leave to fight in a war. Well hey, guess what? People die in war.

How much does a cruise missile cost? Several hundred thousand.

No issues with them being “collateral damage” if they’re a legitimate military target, but purposely going out of our way to assassinate them because they’re British citizens is another matter entirely.

Surely leaving to join IS is enough evidence. You don’t join IS to do missionary work.

Well, any trial should be cut and dry then shouldn’t it?

But killing them merely lowers yourself to their standards.

Lock them up and forget about it.

Are Daily Mail articles being dumbed-down more than usual these days?

This is an article for people who want to feel outraged more than anything else. There isn't any substance or content to it if you take away the frothing and moaning over nothing.

It’s an opinion piece, not an article so a very different beast.
