He’s right. The current sad state of affairs at Apple is down to having a wishy-washy bean counter as CEO and not a perfectionist engineer.

Surely you are not using that phone to it’s full potential if it’s just 16GB? I would have thought a 64GB would be a big step up. Or do you just call people with it? :)

What makes you say this? I keep my phones virtually as stock i.e. nothing saved on them. I don't see the point of clogging up a phone's storage when there's so much 'free' cloud storage about. I use predominantly Google apps whether that is the iPhone or my Galaxy S7 and with 15 gigs of free cloud storage plus 40 gigs free on OneDrive why do I need lot's of storage on a phone?

Cloud storage is all well and good if you have a decent connection to it, but without that its useless. You obviously don't travel that much if you can afford to rely on it. :)

Not sure what relevance that has? If you travel you can download items prior to travel then delete when watched/listened too. Given WiFi is pretty much available most places these days I can even tap into my NAS at home and access material from there too.

Absolutely - Apple are masters at talking the market up. There are always going to be a certain amount of people falling over themselves to put money into Apple's wallet, but at a £1000 it won't be me. I've yet to see any cogent argument as to why I would ditch either my iPhone 7 or my Galaxy S7 in favour of the iPhone X. From someone who already has wireless charging with their S7 I can tell you it's no deal breaker. In fact I quickly went back to using 'fast charging' with the S7.

And a 16GB iPhone is pretty much useless for downloading content and watching it offline if you want to use that phone for anything else. Do you use things like Apple Music or Plex or FLAC files or even deal with large files. Most Wi-fi is poor and even plans like the Three AYCE plans are useless for roaming. I suppose its a horses for courses job, but there is no way I could live with 16GB and use my phone how I want it to be used. Even Apple aren't making a 16GB any more.

You must be lucky. That system never worked for me when I was commuting in London let alone any trips to foreign countries.

Then again it sounds like you’re talking about films rather than music, games and photos etc.

Cloud storage is a useful backup (usually from home due to having a reasonable internet connection) but that’s about it. Unless you’re willing to pay stupid amounts for large mobile data limits or are lucky enough to have access to 3s unlimited internet plans (and live somewhere it’s useable - AKA not many parts of London)!
 
I have decided to keep my iPhone 6 for another year, my routine is changing phones every 4 years so this is exactly that.

The currently new technology being introduced into the latest handsets doesn't really improve my daily usage.

1 - wireless charging
2 - water and dust resistance
3 - FaceID
4 - 3D touch
5 - Bluetooth 5.0 and faster CPU

None of these really affect me how to use the phone to check emails, pay for stuff with NFC, listen to podcast etc. The increase in speed is welcome but that is not new tech, that is mandatory being a new phone. I am happy to have Touch ID, I am happy to keep charging via cable and to be honest, when i am travelling I would be charging via a cable anyway and not a wireless dock. As for water and dust resistance, I have never dropped a phone into the water in the history of owning phones so the chances of that happening is on the low side.

The time to change is when it is so slow for me to find acceptable or when the new iOS stops supporting the phone so some apps don't update anymore. That's a sign when it is to change.

The X should have been mainstream, not a grand.

The 8 in my opinion, should not have existed.
