Hi chaps,

After successfully getting the PPPoE info from a helpful chap at Vodafone Isat down and tried to get my Draytek 2862n to connect to my new Vodafone FTTC line. 3 hours later I gave up.

Seriously what am I missing!

I have the PPPoE creds in place and the external VLAN set to 101. I have also tried using the old MAC address from the Vodafone Connect router as well. The DSL connects as expected but nowt after that.

I dont know if having a static IP makes a difference to the config or not and if I need to setup TR069!? or not but I wuold appreciate it if someone knows the answer as its drving me bonkers. I know it will be something stupid i'm missing.

cheers

Did you copy the user details from a chat session or did an agent give them to you over the phone?
There's lots of instances reported of Vodafone agents misreading i's l's and 1's etc when giving out usernames via the phone.

Remove the static IP settings on the Draytek, keep it to dynamic, the static IP should be done on Vodafone's side. All you need to do is the Vodafone username and password under PPPoE.

the user/pass were emailed and SMS'd to me

so to be sure I just factory reset the router and just used the user/pass and vlan 101 (also tried 10) but still no dice.

there isnt a great deal of options for the actual modem.

it shows "showtime" on VDSL2 so looks ok to me. the issue is more the PPPoE / autoconfig I think

If the modem page is showing "Showtime", you are right defo connected to the DSLAM. A long shot i know but have you tried auto config using the CD that came with the Draytek ?

no CD with the router I'm afraid.

It would be goof to know 100% if the VLAN should be 10 or 101 as i have conflicting information. really frustrating as this should be so straight forward.

I cant see a way to see is the PPPoE auth fails or if it even gets that far.....

I though that I would post the answer to this as you never know if it will help someone down the line.

Sorry Caged, I didnt want to post screenshots as I was confident that the settings were correct as there isnt anyway to really go wrong.

however after getting the external syslog on the Draytek setup it was clear that the CHAP authentication was failing. So once again I reconfirmed the details with Vodafone. Once again they were the same as I had written down. I asked about "any other" config that would be required for a static IP and the lassy then gave up the gem of "oh if you have a static then its business broadband, I'll transfer you" errm WTF right?
Anyway the chap at business broadband took one look at the info I had been (repeatedly) given and said "yup that wont work" the username needs to be [email protected] not [email protected]

FFS

So simple but so annoying as well. I knew the fact I had a static IP would have been the difference between my account and 99% of all other home accounts but didnt think they would class it as a business account to sort it out.

sigh....

oh well its all up and running and I can now shelve the god awful Vodafone Connect forever.

I wasn't even aware a static IP was an option on the home service. Are you paying a price that fits any of the business tariffs or is it some weird combination of both?

you maybe right about the weird combination that's for sure. I insisted on a static when I called through for the service and they said it wasn't an problem. No mention of it being a business account at the time and certainly no mention of it on the bills or anywhere to be honest. I'm guessing its something to do with their internal systems.

Have you actually confirmed you have a static address? Or have you just lucked out at the moment on always having the same address?
I ask because according to Vodafone T&C's any home user can request a static IP address for no extra cost. This has been in the terms for at least a year. However for the last 10+ months Vodafone have said the service is currently "unavailable" and nobody has been able to get one. Vodafone forums will have a weekly post from somebody and it's answered in the same way - feature is currently not available.
Also plenty of people have been promised things from Vodafone during the order placement phase which have failed to appear once the service has gone live. Fingers crossed you've got exactly what you've asked for and it will at least give me ammunition when I make my bi-weekly call to Vodafone requesting my static IP address.

They confirmed the IP a week before the service went live and the IP on the email is the one I have now. So Vodafone definitty do a static IP.

The only way you will know for certain is to switch your router off for half an hour and then turn it on again. If you still have the same IP, then all is good.

half an hour eh... hmmm. you know the DHCP value at vodafone.....

sorry but WTF.

I know i have a valid static IP as I am an IT professional and have checked it as anyone would. the 30min thing is like what? a value? a figure?

sorry dude but the entire thread has been about WHY the hell a standard router wont connect. The answer was because Vodafone gave the wrong credentials. Your comment is not relevant. The issue was the fact THEY gave me wrong creds over and over

If i am wrong them flame/report/whatever.

I have re-read this and it sounds angry but it isnt. just factual.
