I'm not gonna lie..

That's the point of my post, you hear or read some people (usually Americans) say "I could care less about...."), when they actually mean I couldn't care less.

It's rage inducing.
Yes, yes it is.

Almost as much as Shearer and co on MotD saying "they done this really well"; "with everything they done today"; "they done the right thing"... Shearer, Shearer.... "have done" or "did". Pick one, please.

I think it must be a football thing, because pretty much all the pundits and players are unfamiliar with the word "did".

My wife always says "There's nothing worse than..." Tonight we had "There's nothing worse than putting on a wet swimming costume". Oh really? Nothing worse than that? Punch in the face? Terminal cancer? Nuclear war? No, putting on a wet swimming costume is literally the worst thing that could conceivably happen.

Totally agree... Drives me nuts. Needless to say it's only a matter of time before the idiotic youth in this country take it on due to them hearing their hero / role model saying it on YouTube / twitch etc

Or "at this present moment in time" instead of "right now".

Crutch phrases, crutch words.

All things people say or write because it feels comfortable for them to do so.

Or in some cases because you want to present your words in a certain way, perhaps to create an illusion and customise your word delivery to your audience.

I can recall someone saying the phrase in the OP quite recently. I know this because I typed it on this forum myself a few hours before this thread and it is not a stock phrase for me. I did however feel it suited the tone I wanted.

It's an internet forum after all, no need to keep it real.

Honestly I talk to so few people I haven't really got any pet hate phrases.

One which makes me laugh when i hear it on TV police shows however, is how the criminal will always confess their innocence with "I ain't done nothing!"

"I was only joking..." (when patently obvious you're not.

"I'm sorry if that offended you, etc." (as opposed to "I apologise for etc., etc.).

"It just fell apart in my hands."

"It was like that when I got here".

Lol.

Wife is from Yorkshire and although her accent is all but gone, she cannot get the right 'was' or 'were' right at times.

Were can be used in place of was when connected to a singular pronoun. The reverse – i.e. producing constructions such as we was and you was – is also not unheard of.

(1) She were a good worker.

(2) There was a lot of us that were sort of seventeen.

(3) You were mentioning windscreen wipers…….

(4) You was only away a bit.

My GP has a phrase: 'there and things there'
He will say this after everything. Its hilarious at times! E.g.
You need to put the cream on twice a day there and things there
You have a viral infection there and things there
That's perfectly normal there and things there
Stop touching yourself there and things there

"And so on and so forth"

My mother's personal favorite. So much so that when my 5 Year old sings wheels on the bus, you can guess what "the Grandmas on the bus" say.
