Why does the UK hate cyclists?

That's not really relevant to what he was talking about to be fair.

Recklessly putting yourself in danger in traffic on a bike and doing so in a car are vastly different levels of risk.
Ah, so it’s different for cars because they’re safe inside their metal cage and far more likely to only be endangering others, right?

Most of the cyclists round here at night are weaving about the lanes, half cut, coming back from the pub. Given half the car drivers are too makes for some bizarre accidents. The number of banned drivers on electric bikes is notable, too.
Given that you can be held to be drunk in charge of a bicycle, this is yet another issue that could be fixed if we actually had a functioning police force.

If they're banned from driving and using an electric bike they're possibly driving whilst disqualified :) (it's a motorised vehicle).

People have been done for driving whilst drunk and driving whilst disqualified using things like mobility scooters.

Curious. You don’t need a license to use one but having your license for something else revoked would make it a crime to use one.

30 plus years of driving and not seen many good cyclists in that time...
Confirmation bias. You’ve seen plenty but your brain doesn’t log then because you’re preoccupied with the bad ones.

It’s ok, you’re not the only person who does this. It’s no different to people claiming Audi drivers don’t indicate. I mean, obviously they don’t, but it is just about possible that they do but our brains ignore it because it doesn’t fit the stereotype.

They totally never indicate, though. Never ever.

I've only ever come across one cyclist who had steady lights on instead of flashing.

It's so much more difficult to judge your distance from me if your lights spend as much time off as they do does on.

I initially thought it was a a requirement that you have at least one steady light on either end but apparently not. What a joke.

Essentially yes, it takes more arrogance/insanity to risk your life when they protection is significantly lower and the danger to your own well being is significantly amplified.

Just read my original post instead of just arguing so the sake of it.
What’s your point? You saw one bad cyclist? I’m not going to defend him. But I have to ask... why is it ok to single out cyclists putting themselves at risk joining roundabouts without looking but to overlook drivers doing exactly the same when they’re putting others at risk?

That’s a subject of debate. Have their been studies on how easy it is to judge the distance?

At least you didn’t fall into the trap of telling us that flashing lights are illegal.

I give up. If you can't be bothered to read 3 posts, I cba to even bother replying.

Oh right, so we can’t generalise about inconsiderate tractor drivers, but cyclists are fair game. Keep it up.

I've never seen a cyclist move over to allow people to pass...

On my commute which is mostly rural, I see tractors doing it all the time. Trucks too.

I always have my lights on solid, because I also drive and so know horrifically distracting flashing ones are. Using them in flash mode should be re-banned IMO as it's a danger to yourself and others.

The mistake a lot of cyclists make is angling their bright lights straight forward, instead of, like me, angling them down towards the road surface in front of you.

Anyway....this old subject again...!

Like this guy :D

I read that this guy brakes failed. If that was true he's still a muppet for not making sure they worked. To have both fail at the same time seems unlikely though and extremely bad maintenance .

I tend to see a lot more bad car drivers, but you would expect that as there are a lot more of them. The proportion of bad cyclists may well be higher. I see many overtake me on cycle paths and go zooming across roads at speeds too fast to see if any cars are coming. I'm amazed I haven't seen the odd squashed one yet. :O See a few squashed cars, and one up-side-down one.

On the other hand I see multiple car drivesr going through amber and even red lights when they shouldn't. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/the-highway-code/light-signals-controlling-traffic (Wikipeda even gets this wrong)

I ride on cycle paths and small amount of pavement (I ride slowly and look for pedestrians and cars) for 90% of my journey , but on the 10% of road, cars delay me 2-3 time more than I delay cars, as I let cars though whenever possible, I don't like them up my arse. :S

Brakes failed, yea right. Because everyone keeps going the same speed in a straight line when they notice they are unable to stop..

I can probably count on one hand the number of cars I've seen properly jump a red light (not just narrowly get through on amber). But I see cyclists blatantly go through reds almost daily on the crossroads at the end of my road. Seen loads of near misses.

I do agree with this. My front light is constantly on, and my back light is static with a brighter pulse. I don't understand why on unit roads some people choose to have their very bright front lights on pulse.
