Water Dowsing/Divining

wasn't the original idea behind divining that the whole rods crossing thing was just a flashy way of making people believe it was magic, when in fact the diviner was simply just experienced at reading the land (like how modern surveyors would do). hence why it doesn't work in the lab but appears to work in the real world.

short version though is it's still bunk

My uncle used to do it and I was shown how to do it when I was a kid/teenager.

It was a long time ago but from what I recall it did appear to work though I can't work out how. I've seen first hand a well discovered when I was a teenager. I am sure I will be called stupid, but I simply cannot explain how it worked.

you can't explain how it works because it doesn't work... there are plenty of youtube videos teaching people how to supposedly do it - it takes about 2 minutes to learn... but no one has ever been able to demonstrate it working when properly tested... if they could then there is a 1 million dollar prize on offer (and they'll have defied a load of physical laws)

Never mind dowsing rods, why has no one questioned why the water companies don't know where their pipes are in this age of technological wonder gubbins (tm)?

When the ground shifts the pipes move. They can't keep an accurate track on them.

More believable than dousing anyway :D

I can't explain how my uncle found the well.

@Mynight I don't believe that could make that much of a difference given how much of the road they dig up to get to it any way :D.

It's like a they can't get it right the first five times in some parts of Bristol.

maybe he got lucky, maybe he noticed something different in the ground etc.. it doesn't really matter - it is just an irrelevant anecdote that the rest of us have no further knowledge of

you probably can't explain why he doesn't want 1 million dollars either which he could claim simply be demonstrating that he can do this

I was jesting :D.

I remembering being told that many developers go off plan and with the age of some of the system it just makes more sense to make an educated guess where the pipes are rather than actually try and keep a map which would probably be wrong.

I have to put my hands up - I used them to find my water pipe before digging for a new extension - I like everyone on here was sceptical (did spell check that) but it worked for me but I am a believer.

link to this prize please.

ah... sadly it seems to have ended two years ago:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_Million_Dollar_Paranormal_Challenge

bit of a shame that he had all that time to claim it and didn't

then again, if he could really demonstrate his ability/super powers, given he'd literally be breaking the laws of physics etc... it would be a huge event that he'd no doubt be able to earn silly amounts of money from anyway...

it just seems a bit odd, you seem to think your uncle has these super powers yet he's not famous despite apparently being capable of doing something that would be absolutely groundbreaking for science

Have seen it done before on a blocked farm drain that was 'somewhere' beneath a deep stone drive that took some depth to get down to, worked for us. Helps if you have a rough idea of where the pipe might be first though.

lol come on...

it's like the homeopathy patients who say the homeopathic remedy 'worked for them' etc..

for all the scientific achievements in the last few centuries all this proves is that human beings are still mostly the superstitious morons 'they' have always been.
