War crimes defendant takes poison during live trial

Also whats with them asking him to "please do this and that", like he's there by choice.

It's probably a formality that they choose to recognise, like calling people in the house of commons honorable member etc.

Prison is a place where you lose your liberty, not somewhere where you should be treated like an animal. I'm sure many prisoners would live in squalor in exchange for the ability to walk free.

They don't have to treat them like animals, but there should be no entertainment or luxuries there at all.

Boredom should be part of the punishment. Paint everything grey, no TV, no music, give them the same food every day, etc.

Like I always say, justice isn't about revenge. It isn't about "getting even".

There is no place for torture, or cruel or unusual punishment, in the justice system. They lose their liberty, that is sufficient.

How do you quantify losing partial liberty as being sufficient?

And that in itself could be classed as cruel, so how do your differentiate this from say "Boredom should be part of the punishment. Paint everything grey, no TV, no music, give them the same food every day, etc."

We are animals, so however you treat them becomes being treated like animals. They should be treated like the scum they are. :)

Why should the average scumbag prisoner, let alone a war criminal, get an easier life inside than some poor sod who's never broken the law but has to live on foodbanks and hoping not to freeze to death because they can't afford to keep warm in the winter?

Having personally seen what they did no it is not sufficient at all.
It is understandable that people affected might want to see the guilty suffer. Might even want them to be tortured.

But that is not what justice is about.

Torture and cruelty are (thankfully) not included in civilised penal systems.

e: Also, hello fellow Truronian :p

As someone with a mother who's a prison guard, let me ask you 1 very important question.

Would you want to be outnumbered 40:1 with a bunch of very bored, angry, criminals?

They'd be far too tired to do anything after 12 hours on a prison treadmill.

they have luxury prison cells, it's probably bleach or some other cleaning product he's nicked from the cleaner and easily hidden among all his possessions etc.. in his prison suite/mini apartment

Drinking a bit of bleach is not going to kill you.

Could be anything really, nicotine is very toxic and widely available for example.

Don’t understand why he announced it

What if by telling them it’s poison, they managed to save him?

Be better to leave them wondering

Great result.

Serbs are going wild on Facebook right now. They think he was a hero unjustly convicted by a corrupt, NATO-influenced court. Bloody East European peasants.
