Arizona cop found not guilty of murdering unarmed man

that video is outrageous, that cop should be convicted of murder for that,
once he had the victim hold his hands in the air he should have slowly approached him, whilst instucting him not to move, and cuffed him,
the cop was militant

I'm pretty confident that you'd fine much more support for the police in the UK than the US. Do we know if the jury voted unanimously, or if it only needed a majority?

Surely if he is lying down with arms outstretched another officer can go over and search him.
If he makes any movement then they might have a case to shoot.
Looks like murder to me but american laws are dumb.

Murder is really hard to prove, it requires the prosecutor to prove intent to kill beyond reasonable doubt. The officer would have almost certainly been assigned to the call in some way and was responding to a call where a man was reported to be waiving round an assault rifle. So attending that call weapon drawn is very reasonable.

To add in the context that the American people basically have unlimited access to firearms, legal or otherwise. It is very normal to have people with handguns tucked in their pants, some people take their guns everywhere, often legally.

Where is the premeditation? Manslaughter is a much easier charge to prove in these situations.

He did it because the guy randomly reached for his belt with his right hand, which the cop couldn't see. It looked like he was going for a gun.

Problem is he has to make the decision then, if he waits to see whats in his hand he could end up dead. It's a hard one. TBH I think any armed cop (or soldier) would have done the same.

Policing in the USA is kill or be killed. They encounter guns on a daily basis, people are very unpredictable especially when drunk.

What country to live in then, that someone reaching for their waistband is justification to shoot to kill.

It is when you are responding to a call of a man waiving round an assault rifle out a window. Mass shootings are common, more than 1 a day in 2015. How would you feel if it was your job to keep people safe.

64 USA police offcers were killed in 'firearms related incidents' in 2016 alone. How many were killed in the UK?

This smacks of someone who knew that rigidly sticking to procedures while showing zero discretion would allow him to legally kill the guy. In other vids I've seen the cops tend to plead with the person to comply, and react angrily after being forced to shoot. This guy sounds like an overzealous COD player.

Longer vid:

"We investigated ourselves and cleared ourselves of murder or any wrong doing"

There was absolutely no reason for them to make him crawl to them, he was prone with his hands behind his back, just proceed and cuff him? the cop clearly is a psycho sadist and was confusing the guy, he wanted to shoot him.

The cop had "You’re ******" engraved on his gun ffs

Yes it is when you know the person has been seen with a weapon. In the clip the cop appears to look away for a second, as he looks back the guy appears to be pulling something from his hip. Dumb move, he gets shot. It could be anything from a knife to a bomb detonator. The cop doesn't know because he can't see his hand.

They may as well just shoot everyone to be on the safe side. Anyone just walking down the street could be about to nuke half the state.

Have to say, it's nice to see the mass protests, riots and constant media attention by the 'All Lives matter' gang over this execution. Oh wait....

The rate at which black people are killed by the police is rather higher than that for white people, but keep grinding your axe.

Also, for what it’s worth in the article:

the article said:
The shooting came at a time last year when the American Civil Liberties Union and Black Lives Matter had been pressing police agencies around the country to ease up on deadly use-of-force tactics. Both Shaver and Brailsford are white, but the verdict was being watched closely by police watchdog and civil-rights groups.

I think part of the problem was that they didn't know at that point how many people were in the hotel room and whether they were armed or not.

Anybody going forward to the suspect would put themselves at risk of being jumped by somebody still in the room and in the line of fire of the other officers and so not in a position to be protected by them.

There are certainly actual criminal psychopaths who try to, and successfully, join police forces just so they can feel like they're some sort of God in their uniform and murder people. This is an absolute certainty.

Unlike Alabama, Arizona doesn't have a Mayor who trawls malls looking to hit on underage children to have sex with. The shooting of an unarmed person doesn't surprise me.

Just so its clear for everybody, the shooter was not the one yelling.

The one who was yelling in the video is Sgt. Charles Langley. The guy retired 4 months after this incident but was never on trial. In my opinion it is his responsibility for the loss of life.

Again, I am absolutely appalled at the way US police handles these situations and that the sergeant was not punished, although I suspect his retirement was forced by his superiors as he was clearly the main contributing factor to this terrible outcome.
