  • Noticed how much I appreciate a quiet Sunday morning lately.
  • Started having to trim my nose hair.
  • Have no idea who any celebrities from the last 5 or so years are.
  • Most of my cultural references are from the 90s and early 2000s.
  • Back hurts pretty much every day now.
  • Started listening to Queen unironically.
  • Can get by with much less sleep.
  • The internet is getting more and more boring.
  • Hardly ever feel like watching TV anymore.
  • Zero interest in video games.
  • Increased interest in gardening.
  • Get a bit excited about my yearly blood lipids test results.
  • Sometimes I think about buying a boat.
  • Increased interest in radio 4.
  • Got my first divorce under my belt.
  • Started to prefer red wine instead of beer. And one glass is enough.
  • Less interest in weight training and more interest in cycling and endurance.
  • Don't feel the need to try and impress anyone, happy to be plain and invisible.
  • Feel like I have women figured out quite well.
  • Seem to be more tolerant of others. "That's nice dear."
  • Catch myself imagining what kind of grand dad I'll be (could happen in about 10 years).
Not even 40 yet...

Wait to almost 50 then you get up feeling like your almost dead some days :(
Hang overs last days instead of hours (So I hardly ever drink these days)
Eye sight is gone to pot
You out at night and you feel to old to be there when it looks like everyone else is less then half your age

  • Started having to trim my nose hair - Nope, have still hardly got any body hair
  • Have no idea who any celebrities from the last 5 or so years are - Still know who most are apart from reality people.
  • Most of my cultural references are from the 90s and early 2000s - Yeah, I’d go with this
  • Back hurts pretty much every day now - Have a back condition anyway, so yeah.
  • Started listening to Queen unironically - Don’t reslly know what this means. I still enjoy them though. They’re brill.
  • Can get by with much less sleep - Still need 8 hours minimum
  • The internet is getting more and more boring - It’s gone from something of wonder to a mundane necessity.
  • Hardly ever feel like watching TV anymore - Only when I get into bed or unless footies on.
  • Zero interest in video games - No, still enjoy gaming, but only in short hour sessions, no more marathons.
  • Increased interest in gardening - Yeah, I like to grow tomatoes and chillis.
  • Get a bit excited about my yearly blood lipids test results - I have so many blood tests, I’d have a permanent boner if I got excited by them.

  • Seem to be more tolerant of others. "That's nice dear." - No, I’m getting more grumpy and intolerant with age.
  • Catch myself imagining what kind of grand dad I'll be (could happen in about 10 years) - Will never be a grandad so d8nt think about it.

The things I've appreciated as I get older is the absolute value of healthy eating, regular exercise, sleeping enough, little to no alcohol and trying to minimize stress. Body-wise I feel absolutely no different than 15 years ago. I probably felt worse back then as I didn't really look after myself the way I should've and put my body through a lot of abuse :p.

Increasing pain. Niggling pains that come and go, becoming more frequent until they're permanent.
Ear hair. What on earth is that about? Why do my ears need hair? Maybe some of the hair that's no longer on my head has wandered off a bit :)
The delight of removing my shoes after a long day at work.
A nice sit down and a cup of tea is far more appealing than going out.
My cultural references are older than many of my coworkers. Older than some of their parents.
Beer. I never liked beer when I was younger. Now I do. Just one bottle now and then, about once a month. I'm trying various beers. My local Tesco has a surprisingly large choice. Fresh out the shower, bottle of beer and a good book. Lovely.
Presbyopia to add to my myopia and astigmatism. I'm putting off getting varifocal glasses because I don't want to bet a minimum of £300 on being able to get used to them quickly, but I'm going to have to. Either that or carry two pairs and swap between them.
Grey hair, but oddly specific. My pubic hair is grey, but the rest of my hair is the same colour it's always been.
I've become startled by what young people wear outdoors, especially at night. Then I remember that when I was their age I used to walk around in jeans and a thin t-shirt in snow and not be bothered. I hope I never say "you'll regret it when you get older", like people said to me.

On the whole, what I've noticed is that I've become rather like how my mother was when I was a boy and she was middle-aged. Apart from the ear hair and the beer. Quite possibly also the pubic hair, but I'm not going to ask her about that :)

Another thing I’m noticing lately is having to go for a slash 3 or 4 times a night.

I'm almost sure that's something to seek medical advice about. I recall an advertising campaign from the NHS on the sides of buses about how it's not just an unavoidable part of aging and should be checked out because there are multiple possible causes.

OP invest in a decent mattress. We did, it's the best thing you'll ever do for your back. That and correct your posture :)

Don't get me started :s

On the tolerant one - I've become less hot tempered over the years but less and less tolerant of stupidity.

I'm getting less and less tolerant and seem to be noticing more and more as I get older of people who don't give a **** about health and safety, basic decency around other people and when using shared facilities, etc. those that don't even do a basic good job - I can understand not putting in extra effort but if you are going to do something atleast get the basics right - people who can't tidy up/organise after themselves around shared areas and/or put tools back where they found them when they borrow them, etc. etc.

We have security barricades at work to prevent the emergency exits being rammed in a smash and grab kind of job which once in place means they can't be used as an emergency exit and is a real risk to life, etc. they are meant to be deployed last thing at close of business but several times lately I've caught people deploying the one at the far side of the building an hour to an hour and a half before we close up to save themselves a few seconds at the end - completely unconcerned about any health and safety issues resulting and probably won't be concerned until something actually happens - unfortunately next time it will have to be a disciplinary and probably dismissal. Stuff like this really annoys me.

Biggest for me is my perception of time, hours/days/weeks/months seem to go by so quickly now!

Feeling more tired
Less tolerant (kids really are annoying aren't they? I'm sure I was never like that...)
Worry a LOT more about stuff I have no control over
Sex has become less a treat more a task.
Getting fatter, balder, generally less attractive outside and inside.

Ugh this sucks!

I'm 35 and occasionally get up once a night for a wee..

3-4 times seems a lot unless you are drinking heavily or very old.

Just turned 40 here and I have to get up and pee around twice in a night.

I believe this is down to my water consumption (about 7 to 8 litres every day), but hearing about the prostate thing......its worth checking.

Anyway to check this without having a doctor insert a digit into my rectum?

39 here.

- years go by quicker
- the summers are getting hotter each year
- everyone have autism / get triggered / offended
- the high street is entirely comprised of gambling shops, charity shops, phone shops and coffee shops
- chart music and TV went to pot years ago
- everything is getting smaller e.g. Toblerone, Wagon Wheels, Cadbury's Créme eggs, Walkers crisps
- you HAVE to be on Facebook / Twitter or gtfo
- you're not allowed to say gay or straight any more, you have to say cis- or whatever
