Apple slows your iPhone down "to conserve battery"

You are terrific at missing points.

I don't do fake outrage, but I do understand corporate responsibility and risk and the damage that such actions can have. You just assumed my concern was with my iPhone and impact on me, somewhat naive. Do you have a VW diesel?

So what action do you want to see happen? Other than Apple being more transparent up-front about these measures (which I agree with), what else do you want to see happen?

I drive a Toyota.

Other than indulging yourself in a bit of fake outrage, what else are you expecting to happen? What damage have you suffered and what recourse do you want to see?

A massive fine like 300 billion, that will teach them that they can't go around thinking they own the world.

Except they do own the software.... not defending, just saying.

They have dropped the ball on this one. While I accept their explanation until other evidence is presented, I fundamentally disagree with the way they have gone about it.

Well I want them to do nothing because do you know what, if they can't make a phone that will work for 2 years as planned I would like to know so I can buy one that will. What they are doing is saying "yea, it's not as good as we thought, so we made is crapper in other areas too". If you struggle to see the issue with that mindset then fine, we are all different.

I don't want to be told I can do 80mpg and kill only 1 panda a year with my 130bhp when in fact it's 10 pandas, 50mpg and after your next service will actually be 110bhp because, well, we got found out to be telling porkies and that lovely live stream black polo neck loveliness and soft speaking Johny was in fact just more marketing crap to play to the believers. I've loads of Apple stuff, I like it, but I am not blind to corporate malpractice either.

I've been barking up this tree all afternoon, this guy either works for Apple or has loads of shares or he's simply a product of their will. Save yourself the time.

OK so all you want to know is that batteries degrade and what effect it has on the device? So as above, problem solved then?

I bemused that so many iPhone users are saying they appreciate the effort of being slowed down to save their device.
Why are they not outraged that the simple fix of a problem was hidden from them intentionally.

Maybe iPhone users buy iPhones because they don’t want their phone to turn into some kind of hobby. They want an appliance - something that works without having to know about the internal workings. They don’t want to tinker.

All my phones work perfectly fine, don't need to know anything

Only the very best intentions behind silently throttling the hardware people paid for so all the customer sees is an increasingly slowed phone with no explanation.

Only after being called out on it with proof do they admit what they were doing.

They didn't want people to know about it and now they have egg on their face.

We might never hear an honest explanation because they were forced to explain themselves, not willingly.

if you had not read where the life blood was being diverted
.....
In cases that require more extreme forms of this power management, the user may notice effects such as:

  • Longer app launch times
  • Lower frame rates while scrolling
  • Backlight dimming (which can be overridden in Control Center)
  • Lower speaker volume by up to -3dB
  • Gradual frame rate reductions in some apps
  • During the most extreme cases, the camera flash will be disabled as visible in the camera UI
  • Apps refreshing in background may require reloading upon launch
Many key areas are not impacted by this power management feature. Some of these include:

  • Cellular call quality and networking throughput performance
  • Captured photo and video quality
  • GPS performance
  • Location accuracy
  • Sensors like gyroscope, accelerometer, barometer
  • Apple Pay

For a low battery state of charge and colder temperatures, power management changes are temporary. If a device battery has chemically aged far enough, power management changes may be more lasting. This is because all rechargeable batteries are consumables and have a limited lifespan, eventually needing to be serviced or recycled. If you are impacted by this and would like to improve your device performance, replacing your device battery can help.
