I think the bouncer was pretty restrained actually. It's not like he repeatedly pummeled one guy to a pulp - everyone had ample time to reconsider their actions and walk away.

near the start you can see the guy who gets knocked out punching someone...with their jacket pulled over their head....is that the bouncer who knocked him out?

not clear as they go out of shot when they're struggling....did he just fix his jacket out of shot and come back for the KO?

Looks justified to me. Don't keep going back after you've had a slap and expect a cuddle and some hot chocolate.

Also as a single body in the middle of that group going in to restrain anyone is going to leave you wide open to his mate(s) thinking I'm going to have some of that and booting you when you can't see it coming.

Looks reasonable to me. After each punch he moves away and doesn't go in hard. Each punch is after the idiots go back for more, and then only a single one. The bouncer has a right to defend himself after already being attacked.

First punch is probably justifiable... second and third punch were perhaps a bit excessive... his manager/the club owners ought to be worried a bit. While perhaps he can still justify it in terms of avoiding criminal charges from the police, the guy was clearly in no state after the first punch and two more punches to the head/dropping him to the tarmac could have done some serious damage - this is where people can get killed and the club might well get sued.

I guess there is the off chance that the guy was trying to restrain the bouncer and had legitimate reason to do so (we don't know what started it all) - though slightly undermined by him throwing a few weak punches at him from the clinch near the beginning.

With regard to the second and third punch he gets up and doesn't seem to try and throw a punch, it isn't clear what his intentions are, possibly he's just wanting to complain/mouth off... not a bright idea but also something that doesn't require a 2nd and 3rd punch to deal with. There is another bloke who gets a punch too in the blue shirt, he doesn't seem to have thrown punches (I might need to watch again) and it isn't clear if he was fighting or trying to break things up... he trips and then turns towards the bouncer, we don't know what he says but he gets a punch and is on the floor with the main guy.. that might not have been too reasonable either.

Having seen bouncers being spontaneously started on with belts, glasses and so on, I think a lot of the time when they do use force, it can be justified. But sometimes they can get carried away, as all people do from time to time.

It's directly outside the establishment.
Right exactly, it's on the road. Question still stands though, are they supposed to protect their premises or are they supposed to break up drunken brawls in public.

I'm honestly not sure, I don't typically attend such uncivilised gatherings.

The licensing lot take a dim view of things if people walk out of your door start brawling in the street and you do nothing about it.

Personally I don’t think people are adequately considering how dangerous it is to throw punches like that/how dangerous knock outs are/etc. It’s scarily easy to kill someone and ruin numerous lives. One punch, head smacks on the floor... dead or life changing injury. It’s grim.

I came into say exactly the same thing, what happened to restraining techniques? York pioneered the Door person badge system years ago when I was going out in town. Never once saw a doorman swinging like that, saw lots restraining drunken idiots but never full bloodied punches.

Maybe people should take some responsibility then and don’t get that drunk or start throwing digs at a bouncer to then keep squaring back up to him after he’s already made it apparent you don’t stand a chance.

In hindsight it’s easy to say he should have stopped but when adrenaline is pumping and you don’t know who’s got it out for you in the crowd it’s very difficult to just calm yourself in an instant.

I take it some people here have never had their fight or flight response triggered in a situation like this and are just thinking about it in a pure rational sense where of course any kind of violence could be dangerous/fatal.

Restraining someone in a crowd of that size if you’re on your own or outnumbered could lead to some mug stamping/kicking your head.

Hurfdurf is that you ? #standandbang!

Saw this a day or so ago - reasonable IMO as mentioned he gives them plenty of chance to back off and gives others room to try and stop them and doesn't attack when they are down. It would be interesting though to see a longer video and/or other perspectives to have a bigger picture of what was going on.

Problem is it could quickly and unpredictably escalate to life threatening - one of the lads could have thought it a good idea to do something dumb like use a concealled knife or use their keys hidden in their hands after they got pushed back - seen that happen a few times around here (fortunately in the cases I've seen other people in the crowd noticed and managed to stop them).

This was my opinion. The bouncer has no clue why this guy is coming back and must consider than he could have a concealed knife or other weapon.

The only times I've seen a bouncer restraining someone is when it's a small scuffle or when there are loads of bouncers working together.

That third punch was totally uncalled for and I'm gobsmacked that any police officer would condone that level of aggression.

On a side note, I've known a fair few bouncers in my time, every single one of them admitted they enjoyed sparking out easy targets like this lad (the ones drunk on fighting juice, who probably couldn't win a fight against their own grandmother).
