13yr Old Son's Birthday - What to get?

My daughter is 9 and is asking if I'll let her ride her bike to her grandparents. It's only a 5 minute bike ride away but it involves crossing 2 busy roads and I'm terrified.

I've no idea how old she should be before going out on her own. She's never played out in the street and, although incredibly bright, she doesn't have he street smarts yet

Shielding someone completely from danger is not great. But I understand as a parent the risk and worry of something happening. I'm glad I grew up playing with fire and swimming in lakes etc. But I did grow up in a village. So no danger.

Pretty awesome when you don't know what to buy your own son.... Especially at that age, must be all sorts he would want

Thanks. He reads a lot but also has kindle unlimited, so reads a ton. He skis, but would like to board, so my parents are buying him snowboarding lesson for March.

He got a web cam last year, as he started making vids, so a capture card and greenscreen is a good shout actually...

I was walking to primary school from around the age of 9, similar distance if its a 5 minute bike ride, Crossing just one busy road. Never got in to any trouble.

Honestly though, i wouldn't let my daughter go out alone during the day until she is at least 11-12, and yeah.. probably the same for my son.

tbh I'm the same with our 10yr old. I was riding to school at that age, even 8 probably in a small village, but wouldn't have let mine do that. The 12/13yr old has been for a year though.

When I was 13, all I wanted was girls. With that in mind, get him a 500 piece three dimensional jigsaw. I think they do Star Wars themed ones as well.

For my sons 13th last year we got him a driving day. He got to drive a Lamborghini, an Audi R8 and a Ferrari. The missus booked it but if I remember right it was around the £150ish. He loved it and got videos and pictures from inside the car. Got him a capture card for the Xmas before and think he used it 3 times last year! Keep threatening to sell it.

Can he have a sword as well? I think a manor needs a sword. Or a shotgun...

Driving day is interesting, I think there might be one around here but not sure age restrictions, I'll look, thanks!
