Has anyone elses salary been affected by the gender pay gap yet?

As a matter of fact recent studies show that women on average in the same role earn about 1-2% more than the male in the same role.
I suspect overall it actually is already equal pay with a potential and hardly significant or noticeable difference, it all comes down to how you interpret and manipulate the statistics.

My understanding of the Birmingham public sector pay fiasco is that essentially it was the councils fault for placing the bin operatives (note not 'men' women could apply for these jobs!) on a similar pay scale to some other council roles (which were mainly undertaken at the time by women) but then paying the bin operatives additional payments not generally paid to the other roles.

What the council should have done is be clear from the start that if they thought a bin operative should be paid more than a school dinner assistant that this was the case and placed them on different scales.....

Any persons in the dinner assistant role querying the pay difference should have then been invited to apply for the next available role in the waste operatives sector and if they said anything like 'but it's a dirty job working out in all weather's with early starts' could have this pointed out as part of the reason for the differing pay scales.....

But this is all part of a more recent attack in the dishonest attempt to claim women are systematically discriminated against at work currently in the UK....

Having failed miserably to show women and men are paid differently to any great degree for doing the same job, for he same amount of time with the same skill and experience feminism has moved on to claiming certain jobs are 'equivalent' to other and so should have the same renumeration.....

Feminism suggests that 'womens' work (or at least roles where women predominante) are systematically and unfairly paid less then 'mens' work (or at least roles where men predominante)....

Of cause in doing this they play their part in perpetuating gender stereotypes which feminists normally rail against when it suits their arguments but hey ho.........

Of cause this is all rubbish.... Only a Socialist would look at two completly different jobs and conclude in absence of any other information that they require 'equal' pay...

In the real world pay should reflect the salary required to attract a suitable amount of appropriately qualified applicants to the role and nothing more.... If it's easier to recruit dinner time operatives vs bin operatives then this should be reflected in their pay.....

5minute check these articles are misleading/sensationalist headlines, they are not saying dinner lady = plumber

read here

so - under "single status" they have as much right to bonuses (in proportion to their salary) as male workers who were being paid them irrespective of productivity.
You're fact checking what happened at the Birmingham Council tribunal by linking to articles concerning Sunderland Council tribunal cases? Impressive.

Birmingham =/= Sunderland.

Shhhh, that doesn't support the narrative.
Guess you can't read either.

And this is the point a lot of people have been making for a long time but that just gets ignored. I say we all drop our work standards and abilities to those of the lowest denominator and see how that turns out!
Sounds like socialism. Where do we sign up? I can pick just as many turnips as you can :D:D:D

This decision is mind-boggling. If you're not capable of reaching the minimum requirements for a job, then you shouldn't get the job. Demanding that those requirements be lowered because you have a vagina is just plain crazy.
It's not really about equality at all. It's about replacing one group of people with another group of people. Positions of power are generally held by old white men. Whether they are replaced by white women, black men, Asian women, homosexuals or any other "out group" is irrelevant. All that matters is that they are removed from positions of power.

Equal pay but not equal work. Now we will have women doing jobs they aren’t capable of.

totally disgraceful... dog handlers have to be able to manually lift their dogs and move them.... its a part of the role (dogs cant always be left to climb up or jump down from heights without injuring themselves....)

Sounds like socialism. Where do we sign up? I can pick just as many turnips as you can :D:D:D

I doesn't just sound like socialism ..... it is (cultural) Marxism (so basically socialism)... pretty much all of the modern 'rights' movements are good old, history, science and reality denying socialism dressed up for a new gullible audience to lap up

What is particularly stupid about this whole setup is that the female PC who failed the assessment would have failed her exam after applying for a role that would have stated something like 'we particularly welcome applications from female and minority ethnic recruits who are currently underrepresented in this role'... and now the relevant police forces get to make a pay out from their stretched budgets because guess what the average woman isn't as strong or as athletic as the average male.... well no **** Sherlock ...... its as if James Damore might have been onto something when Google fired him for suggesting that men and women are not the same, on average..............

Looks like Mark Wahlberg has been forced into giving away 1.5 Million Dollars.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...oup-timesup/?tid=sm_fb&utm_term=.d45de907833f

“I said I’d be wherever they needed me, whenever they needed me. And they could have my salary, they could have my holiday, whatever they wanted. Because I appreciated so much that they were making this massive effort,” Williams recalled. Wahlberg and his team drove a much tougher negotiation for the reshoot

So **** all to do with sexism then... unless you think that women being generally a bit **** at negotiating a salary is 'sexism' ....

Cant say I particularly recall Michelle Williams being in much of significant note before.... like her comments suggest she just seemed to be happy that the movie would not be totally pulled or have a limited release (which would potentially hurt her prospects for future roles) so was far more amenable to doing a 'cheap' re shoot of a few scenes to keep the movie going forward unlike Wahlberg who's a much bigger star in his own right and so could afford to say... you wanna reshoot??? going to cost you.............

Probably not a bad thing?, Everybody did the reshoots for pretry much free except him.

Because he was the biggest star in the movie based on previous box office performance........

I heard her in an interview saying wasn't going to do publicity for the movie after the Spacey allegations.

It was pretty much unreleasable with Spacey starring at that time. And it wasn't fair on the 100's of people involved in the movie not to release it.

It was Ridley Scott's decision to reshoot (in 6 weeks) and she was happy to promote it with Chris Plummer as the new star.

So she had a vested interest in doing the re shoots unlike Wahlberg whose a far bigger grossing star and who would not have been affected half as much if the film was pulled..............

like I said **** all to with sexism

Dinner lady is a more skilled job than a bin man.

'Skill' isn't necessarily the deciding factor for a wage in a free market............ difficulty sourcing suitable, willing applicants is far more important (not that I agree with your suggestion anyway)...

The 'dinner ladies' had the option of taking the 'less skilled' but better remunerated 'bin man' jobs but didn't by and large..............

instead they went whining to a tribunal about how it was so unfair (largely due to the local council incompetently placing them in similar bands)

Let's see, dinner ladies cook, prepare and serve all sorts of food. Bin men push wheelie bins.

Preparing/cooking/serving the food they serve up for children at school is an easy job, collecting bins is an easy job.... but a dirty one where you are out in the open in all weathers with early starts.............

its also a job not well suited to a 'life/home' balance as much as a 'dinner lady' job which fits in far more amenably around other family commitments

you are comparing apples and oranges
