Summer house build

Loving the wheelie bin brick solution. Very HSE. :D

Oh yeh, we had a briefing before something along the lines of "try not to die"

I had 3 fence panels that a fixed to the outside 3 sides, I purposly made the back and sides 1.8 meters so a fence panel would fit.

Then back down to b and q for more wood and knocked me up some doors

I bought some finger twisty shoot bolts, I know I have them the wrong way round but I wanted them like this.

Got a cheap sash lock from ironmongery direct and a nice knob. Took me a while to figure out how to do this but it seems to work ok. I intend to paint the whole thing white in the end so this should blend in ok and not look so crap.

Started to fit where the windows will go

Im very impressed, especially to say you made it from spare wood you had laying about, threads like this are inspiring.

Hmm is the timber treated? It's sitting direct on the concrete.

All the builds for observatories like this have the floor raised off the ground. Not that I'm an expert but what stops water coming in at the base?

Last year I actually finally got round to doing the inside properly!

The main thing that was putting me off was the cost of plywood! I needed 9 sheets of 1220 x 2440 which wasnt cheap and i needed it delivering.

I put some plastic behind all the panels to try and make it as air tight as possible, it didnt let watter in, but the amount of spiders that set up home was unbelievable, so I was aiming for space station airlock airtight :)

cutting the triangles for the roof wasn;t as hard as I thought it was going to be. The last piece I had to cut twice as it needed to be spot on, and my measuring was just a bit less than spot on.

The idea is to have a big day bed type thing with storage underneath, minimalist and modern.

i'll post some more later.

I had run cables behind the panels to the roof for some 12v spotlights, also used sealant to seal every panel so there was no gaps anywhere.

Took ages to panel everything, around the windows and up to the roof, so many little gaps to fill in.

Under the seat/bed there is space to store 2 x garden chairs, the sun parasol and a shelf for other bits. the triangle on the right of the seat hinges down to reveal the light switches and dimmers for the spot lights and the ambient lights.

The seat covers I had to get custom made, the prices for this in the UK were a lot, like £400+ so in the end I went with a hong kong company I found on ebay, I was a bit worried about taking the plunge but what the heck, I sent him the dimensions, he quoted it then set up an ebay listing just for me. They charged me £170 including dhl shipping and made everything spot on, perfect, put zips where I wanted and made it out of linen in the colour I wanted, and it took about 3 weeks from placing the order to getting it, excellent service!

I then had to get the uphostry foam pieces, this was from an english company, a few places do it, total cost was about £85. Again give them the dimensions and they make it and send it to you via courier.

as I say I did this last summer, jst forgot I even had a thread on it, any questions feel free to ask.

Made me want a summer house even more now! I'd not really thought of building it yourself but it looks pretty straight forward really might be a nice project after i finish off several others first :o

I really like the design of the roof that really makes it imo.

You say the lights are 12v are you battery supplied? My plan was to have a battery stashed somewhere and a solar panel on the roof as i already have some solar stuff kicking around as where i'd like to put mine is probably 30+m from my house.

Nice job there! Looks really impressive, way better than some of the things you can buy ready built.

Thanks guys, it was a lot of work but more fun doing the inside, at least when it started raining I could just move stuff inside and keep going.

I have little spot lights in the garden, 12v through a transformer running from the house 240v on a timer. The cable goes round the back of the summer house so I thought I might as well tap into that. You can see some of the little spots in the last picture, I already had 2 on the outside of the summerhouse above the doors.
