GPU prices go boom

I just hopped on to take a general gander on OcUK to notice the EVGA 1080TI FTW3 that I bought for £740 is now £989.99! Thats a big 33% increase

Nvidia need to bring out a 1080ti miners edition and leave us gamers alone :)

This is actually the crux of the problem, IMO. No-one can bring out a mining specific card because the market could collapse at any time and the manufacturers are left with worthless stock. This is the very reason you are seeing low stock levels on all "normal" cards at the moment, they can't increase production to satisfy the demand of a market that will disappear overnight.

A stubborn part of me actually hopes the PC gaming industry does die a death (which it will if this continues) just to get it right up the retailers who took the **** right out of their loyal customers.
Yes supply and demand dictates prices. but at what cost? At the cost of loosing your industry?
I wonder how many monitors or gaming chairs OCUK has sold of late? It's not as if anyone is deciding to get into PC gaming right now.
They are making their bed. Lets see if they lay in it when everyone gives up on gaming PC's.

I'm wondering if some clever enterprising peeps develop some software that re-purposes consoles to mining, will probably be a thing at some point then all gaming is screwed ...

Lol, is that even profitable for miners? The ROI time on that must be pretty high ^^
Of course not, cyrpto is crashing and has been since december. But it's in the media, and everyone suddely things they are Warren Buffet if they "have a go". There is little to no money to be made at the moment from a "home miner". But it's great to tell your mates at school or down the pub "Oh yeah im a big shot cyrptocurrency expert, basically I'm like the wolf of wall st". It's crazy.

Couldn't agree more. There could be a very rude awakening for the gaming hardware market.

We live in strange times. A time where we burn vast amounts of electricity for no tangible reason and no benefit to humanity. Just for that hope of "free money" so that individuals can personally benefit. Rather depressing.

Not even remotely true.

I with you on that one. Surely this has to end at some point? I mean it's not like anything of use or substance is created. Also I want to upgrade my pc but the GPU prices are just madness.

The end has already started. Ironically its the folk that see "Cryptocurrency crashes" in newspaper headlines that have never heard of it think "oh ill have a bit of that action" lol. Anyone paying top dollar for a GPU to mine on now has a screw loose, or doesnt know much about basic economics. The bubble has burst, its just deflating slower than most stocks. Because again of hype. It is dying though. Currencies never get easier to mine, only harder. But their value can come crashing down. Making it a pointless venture. The Altcoin market will follow suit as the big players too.

No problem, we can just make more electricity with beautiful clean coal. Miners creating jobs for miners.
