I've only recently joined this site. And it seems as though every other woman is some sort of "model" trying their very best to gain as many followers as possible....

I came across one woman celebrate the fact she had reached 5k followers.

This on-going battle for acceptance can't be good for one's mental state.... Can it?

Maybe you're just searching for the wrong terms?

...or maybe you're searching for the right terms ;)

It's full of people who want to show off there life or just nice pictures of cars, landscapes, computers etc

I can forgive the cars and stuff.

I love women as much as the next hetro man. I just find it strange.

If you have a big rack and are a woman you're a "model" on IG, doesn't matter if your face looks like it got beaten with a bag of chisels.

Shock horror as swathes of young women base their self worth solely on their image. Even young men are heading the same way. Fair play if you manage to bring an income in from it I say.

First we get a thread on twitter followers and now this, have people only just cottoned on that young people for the most part actively want more followers as of way of acceptance and self justification,it’s nothing new, before the internet popularity contests still existed.

You're not wrong there. It's just way more extreme now.

Instagram is great because it can be whatever you want it to, and you can customise it enough to not see all the vain self-centred "influencers". I use it more than FB.

I'd have thought the 5k celebration would be more from a financial aspect rather than acceptance but I could be wrong. You can make a good living from people just looking at your **** on Instagram.

How do people even get paid through posting stuff on instagram? Just endorsements from companies for using their stuff?

Agreed! I share my old sword collection on there to 3,000 people, with each post providing a bit of history and insight (hopefully). No pictures of my dinner, pets, kids or selfies to be had! If you have an interest, just spend a while searching through the hashtags and you can create a really good feed.
