Hi there

As promised in my MAG7 thread, I have introduced voucher codes to discount some select 580 and 570 cards with the hope they reach gamers.

Well I promised some AMD deals other than just the VEGA posted originally, again please keep these codes low key and to this forum ONLY, simply because were selling a lot of volume of these cards are the website retail prices (miners), but those wanting an RX 580 or 570 these prices have zero gouging, I shall be upfromt the margins are 8-10% which is pretty much our minimum margin unless were clearing problem/aged stock which this is not as sales are very strong, but we have large volume. As before codes are one use per account and limited to 1pc per customer to try and ensure it is gamers getting them.

Vastly cheaper than anywhere else to the sum of £100-£200 cheaper and if the mining crazy stops and thousands are cards flood the channel, the above are the prices you would expect to see. :)
As I have previously said, due to the prices increases on memory and other components our cost have risen considerably across all GPU's, even low-end stuff like 1030's which do not even get used for mining.

The prices were massively over-inflated to begin with tho. I guess it's a nice gesture, but really do any gamers think a 580 is worth it at £330?

The 480 8gb fell below £200 iirc, before this mining madness.

Irrelevant if they think its worth it or not, based on new cost, this is now the pricing and as a company I won't reduce our margin under 8% for goods that already have strong run rates at the inflated pricing. This is a gesture to get these cards into the hands of gamers without any gouging on the price.

I did acknowledge it was a nice gesture. Not saying you should or shouldn't do anything. It's your business :)

But I disagree with your very first sentence. As consumers, what we feel "is worth the cost" is the prime determining factor in what we will and won't buy. If something isn't worth our money we don't buy it...

All I can say is buying a a Hawaii based 290 series card was a very good decision considering that after 4 years have passed, the performance of graphic card in similar price bracket has barely moved forward...don't know if we should be laughing or crying

But gamers are a minority. These easily got for £300+. If these prices were live on site they'd be gone within 24 hours. So there are plenty of consumers that feel it's worth the price.

My point is, we launched 580 at £218.99 with the help of AMD.
Since then the manufacturing and production cost have rocketed, a big proportion being down to memory prices more than doubling in the last six months alone and other cost increases on components.

As such the current voucher prices are the prices if the whole channel was healthy on stock for said cards based on current cost prices.

The old prices on graphics cards are simply gone and won't be returning, simply because it is no longer possible.

These deals are for gamers...

OcUK would still sell these cards with 0 discount to miners...

I think we all see the writing on the wall. It's just hard to come to terms with, as a non-mining gamer.

Hard because my wallet looks at me now with tearful eyes, and says "Why do you hate me so? Why must you punish me? What have I ever done to you?"

Agreed.

The question I ask myself, if the mining was not present, would the cards still have gone up in price?
As the lack of supply of memory is down to production capacity exceeded which is down to mining, but also mobile market is to blame as well die to smart phone storage/memory capacity increasing so much that more focus is put there instead of graphics card memory. So I suspect the memory price increases would still have happened, there would be just no gouging of the prices like the entire world is now doing on graphics cards.

These voucher codes are to give our loyal customers and forum members an opportunity to grab a card without any gouging, unless or course members here feel 8-10% margin is too high for selling a product and then supporting it for 2-3yr. :)

I don't know it kind of pushes people towards consoles more and more now to be honest. I've never really been a big console gamer but the reality is the xbox plays pretty much everything a PC can as it's Microsoft and your get a solid frame rate. With PC gaming you are chasing a curve that ultimately results in GPU's that cost as much as an entire console or at the top end several times a console. It's crazy.
I can honestly see it driving people to consoles and it probably already has.

I'm looking at my next upgrade for my PC and thinking -

Not buying anything that needs DDR4 with the price of DDR4 at the moment being 2 x what I would pay and GPU's likely to be 2x what I would pay.

Sensible thing is to sit on hardware at the moment and hope something happens to fix it otherwise pc gaming will die out slowly because the hardware is becoming ridiculously priced.

Even a monitor is more expensive than a TV for a console.

it's making less and less sense kind of convincing myself while typing this!

I do appreciate OCuk making an effort to help the situation and I really feel sorry for those people that either can't wait to upgrade or can't resist the urge.

I really hope crypto currencies die out fast it's the best thing for everyone. It's just a front for the less than savoury people to shift money around the world without getting caught. No good comes of it it's a bubble. Well done to those that speculated and won on it though.

I was looking to get a Rx580 but wanted to know if I would have to also upgrade my power supply as currently my HD7950 uses two 6 pin connectors but I noticed that these say one 6-pin + one 8-pin PCI Express Connector.

Do I need both as I don't have any 8 pin connectors or can you get a cable to convert a 6 pin into a 8 pin?

wish i had got one at launch, i had it in basketat the time. Not a big gamer now so think i will sit on the 670gtx for longer. , hell apu's will start to look good tp me needs.

Just tried to order the 570 for my ITX rig but used the wrong card details, tried again with the correct card but now the code is coming up as expired - is there any way around this or have I missed out?:(

If you ask in customer service or give them a ring tomorrow they may be able to sort you out. A few people had trouble in the other thread and costomer services seemed to be able to help them.

What make and model is your psu? Chances are that if it's a decent one it will already have the correct 6+2 pin cables.
