What's really shocking about this is that her co-presenter and niece refused to take down the videos of her cancer cure claims at her request after she realized she still had cancer, citing that if her aunt kept to her juice diet she'd still be alive.

I don't mind the veganism aspect of this so much, making ludicrous claims about veganism makes me a little cross. The aunt at least saw sense and sought medical help but it was too late so that doesn't make me too angry. The niece of the other hand, what a callous **** she is. After everything, to be in denial and not owning up to the mistake, that is my problem with this, and to not take down the videos show casing this ignorance and spreading misinformation farther.

My Mum died of lung cancer 2 weeks ago and most of the time I think about what I could have done different, said different, acted different, anything to have got her off the path leading to lung cancer. I think about what if I didn't give up on her trying to get her to stop smoking, what if I pressed her more to go to the doctor.

I don't know how to close this.. that'll do.

People seem to increasingly be more and more deluded these days or maybe just the internet exposes it more :(

None of us know how much time we have left and how doing anything differently might have made a difference - there are those who've treated their body like a temple and been cut down early and those that have somehow lived to ripe old ages despite abusing their body. The last few years I've been increasingly somewhat surprised and thankful for the years I've had so far.

Some people cling to all sorts of irrational miracle cure beliefs for various serious conditions. Human behaviour hasn't changed, the internet has opened a channel for people to broadcast ideas.

This soft of thinking is quite common tbh.. obviously this is an extreme example of how far wrong it can go but there are people who post on here even who will happily come out with the usual fallacies surrounding "alternative" stuff like "it worked for me", "you should be open minded" etc.. etc..

The schadenfreude is delicious.

These people are the scum of the earth. I notice that comments have suddenly been disabled on all their videos. No mention of the fact that she died from the cancer she claimed to have cured. Hmm...

I know exactly how you feel...

Lost my mum to lung cancer as well, it will be 3 years now this coming november. and not a day goes by without me beating myself up about what i could have done to prevent it.

but whenever i asked her to stop smoking she just replied that she enjoyed smoking.

6 months or so before she was diagnosed with it we were sitting chatting, about the sore arm/shoulder she had, when she said to me to look at her eye as she felt it looked droopy. i said it looked fine to me...

Little did i know at the time those are 2 signs of Lung cancer. if i had only googled it or paid more attention. maybe things would be different. i regret not doing that every day.

Moved in to look after her and was shocked at how fast she went from a happy active woman to bed ridden then dead in less than a year.

makes me angry too some of the ''cures'' people come up with for it but i guess at the end of the day your just looking for any hope you can get.

I just wish there was more education/information out there.

or even just less misinformation/fewer people spreading nonsense

We can heap a large amount of blame across the Atlantic for BS claims in english and encouragement to follow it.

The cancer law in the UK prohibits anyone from advertising cancer cures or treatment to the public and that cripples nonsense down to to forum gossip level.

But over in America companies can put weight behind cancer claims with the same cheesiness and substance of selling home help items.

Very recently i have come to the conclusion that all this nutcases, gender fluids and SJW's would normally be classed as mentally ill and always been about, but the internet and social media has given then exposure and legitimacy that they shouldn't have.

You can throw in the alt right as well.

Very sorry to hear about your mum, mine passed in October 2014 and I get those feelings too. What still makes me angry is when I see some bull faeces on my timeline from one person or another doing the rounds about chemotherapy being a scam, or how this diet or that might cure this or that terminal illness. It's from normally sensible people too.

Idiots. Even if you think something like that helps, I can't understand not taking normal treatment as well.
Trouble is desperate people will try most things.

But NHS and other places don't help. FFS NHS still offers homeopathy in many parts of the country.

All sorts of aberrant beliefs and behaviour are enabled by the internet. It was once the case if someone believed or behaved oddly they were isolated by the fact few people share their strangeness. The normalising effect of the rest of society would prevent the worst excesses. Now anyone can find a community of likeminded individuals. In most cases this might be positive relieving an individual of loneliness. But it also provides an opportunity for people to be encouraged into odder or less rational beliefs or behaviour.
People who believe odd ideas about health can now find people to agree with, tell them to stick up for their ideas. They can lock themselves in an echo chamber to reinforce their kooky idea and that crystallises into hardened misplaced belief.
I worry about society because of this.

You're perhaps assuming malice where stupidity can more easily explain it. They're probably not overly keen on making Youtube videos now their relative has died of cancer I should imagine.

I agree with above. Normally they would exist at all because of natural selection.

There is/was clearly a fault with their survival instincts.

If I knew I was going to die soon I don't know what kind of irrational things I would try to survive. Probably a lot.

I would probably do the same but not at the expense of getting proper medical treatment.

The internet is becoming a dangerous thing, many examples of similarly misinformed people forming groups and bolstering their own ill-informed views.

I posted a thread a while back about black salve and the lunatics who are attracted to alt medicine. People are weird, sometimes to the point of needlessly dying.

That doesn't explain why (a) they've disabled comments, and (b) refused to admit that she died from cancer.

It's standard behaviour by quacks and their followers whenever the magical treatment fails: shut down any discussion, close websites, block comments, and refuse to admit the truth. It happens again and again. They are despicably dishonest.
