A rise in forum toxicity.

and a lot left after "the incident" years ago

Ooh, details?

It would help if the more right wing people here, would stop posting threads about what they perceive to be ridiculous SJW agendas.

This, personally noticed this seems to be happening more. Apparently L@bRat is off now though, so may decrease a smidgeon.

Far too many threads with some getting offended about others getting offended.

A +1 for people mentioning polarisation, it seems centre politics is dying quickly.

Live and let Live, I say!

Some of the threads are deserving of discussion. However the amount that are scraping of the bottle of the barrel is ridiculous. Oh look somebody said something stupid let's make a thread. Peak thread this week though is the one complaining about the lack of international Men's day presuming it's blocked by the secret SJW council. If only OP had actually took the 5 seconds to google and see there actually is one.

A lot of posters across the forums and social media of recent come across like a learning AI. Testing responses and developing conversation skills in both friendly and adversarial methods.

Even down to the way sources are referenced and debates presented.

Ultimately though the intelligent, considered and rational people have stopped entering the debates and discussions. Those often left arguing it out including on here are just wasting energy.

The Brexit and Trump threads are perfect examples of this, they'd basically just become echo chambers bashing Brexit/Trump rather than any intelligent debate, all of those in support had long since abandoned the threads due to the toxic nature and the mods suspended me twice for just posting stuff from the opposite side of the isle trying to provide some balance.

Glad someone else has noticed this. People don't want to listen to reason, or even entertain those on the other side. SC of all places should be somewhere where different views are respected, not where people are shut down or denigrated.

There are people with over 1,000 posts in the Brexit thread. One member has made more than half of their total posts on the forum in that one thread. Some people need to take a step back sometimes, they become obsessed.

Are you actually being serious?

The Brexit thread is one sided because the Brexiters couldn't make a single valid argument, and then most got banned for falling back on insults.

Thats because any real debate is over past the first page or so the rest is just people arguing minute points or worse trying to trip people out over and trying to prove such and such a person is "racist", "alt right" etc and trying to further their agenda of trying to force out anyone who's not of a similar persuasion to themselves. Identity politics.

So everyone should just shut up and only post left wing approved comments and everything would be fine? Ok.

Have you ever been to the graphics cards subforum?! People there are just as obsessed and just as political except there the colours are not blue and red but red and green.

The humour was deemed to low brow and apparently people wanted more 'intelligent' threads. Now the threads are a 1/3 complaining about SJW, 1/3 racist/sexist ramblings 1/3 ebay threads.

The thing with threads is no one needs to read/open every GD thread say (I certainly don't). Not to mention everyone can create a thread. So when people go into a thread to moan about the thread existing it seems very odd, they could just go read another thread instead, why even read the thread they don't like in the first place let alone post in it multiple times. Perhaps creating the sort of thread they do want to see would be a better use of their time.

which is why GD has a poor reputation

It's not just GD though and it's not just on here.

The groups of hate-males (formerly feminists), anti-fa, identity politicisers are all self replicating. You can see them almost all acting like cults in function creating more of them through recruitment or oppression.

This is the sort of toxicity that stopped me reading that thread. Mods wouldn't do anything about it, I won't repeat the private chat but IMO they have double standards.

People are becoming more toxic and incidentally more fragile at the same time. I blame social media such as Facebook (Facebook groups specifically) and Reddit (to much lesser degree) for kick starting the trend of online safe spaces and echo chambers that cause people who frequent certain ones the ability to surround themselves with only the beliefs and opinions that they want to hear.

I feel like this is increasing the delta between the echo chamber safe spaces, and "reality" or objective truth, and in turn causes different views and opinions that don't align with what they're used to seeing and hearing in their echo chambers and safe spaces, that they find it to be extremely offensive because their ability to deal with different views has started to diminish.

I'm probably explaining my thoughts on this in a really convoluted manner, but I'm absolutely knackered right now and my brain is a bit frazzled.

People are completely losing ability to take criticism. It's getting much much worse with the advent of online safe spaces and echo chambers in the mainstream.

People seem to be extremely offended if you say something that isn't praise, and I can only see it getting worse with how schools are giving kids participation awards. It's really not preparing them for the real world, where you've got to accept that you're gonna be completely **** at some things.

I have to agree with this, pretty much nail on the head for me.
