A rise in forum toxicity.

What is 'toxic' about what Concrete said? Genuine

There was no name calling, insulting or labeling - well, apart from Brexiteer but that's no different to Remainer which is normal everyday language now, as when Tefal said labels I'm assuming he means pejorative ones, like lib-tard, or snow flake etc

This is what I see as the problem, just because you voice an opinion, then can't back it up with any verifiable data so it gets criticised as wrong, with data to back up the opposing view, you get the hump and claim the thread is toxic.

Maybe Toxic is a bit much, but to say "Brexiters couldn't make a single valid argument" in a thread which is hundreds of pages long is incorrect.

In his opinion (which must be respected) yes, but not in other peoples.

I think were people fail online is in respecting other peoples point of views. There is a thing where people agree to disagree. Not on here though.

Now this isn't really anything to do with Concrete, more of the other people in that thread who when faced with an opposing view adopt the boxing stance.

Personally I voted Leave, but I still respect those who voted remain. I don't agree with it (although I do some of it) but I do respect it.

I think a lot of it in the Brexit Thread is now frustration that after 2 years 90% ( a figure I plucked from the air ;) ) of the Brexiteer opinions just seem to be the same old soundbite nonsense from red top rags that has been disproved countless times. It's like playing whack a mole with the 'fake news'

People in there would love a reasoned debate, with evidence put forward, why Brexit is good for the country.

And if we all just agreed to disagree....We wouldn't say anything! :p

[...] the Brexiters [...]
Brexiters/Brexiteers is used to identify the group. Same as Remainers and **moaners (this term is banned under OCUK forum rules, the disagreement I have with mods is they think Brexiteers is not pejorative and I think it is). In this context it's used as an ad hominem (pejoratively!) against a group of people based on how they voted.

[...] couldn't make a single valid argument [...]
To say they couldn't make a single valid argument does multiple things: couldn't is different to didn't - implying lack of ability, or stupidity; valid argument implies that someone is deciding what is or isn't valid, namely the opponent is the judge of what's valid or not.

[...] and then most got banned for falling back on insults [...]
This is a lie. Slander, basically.

There was a few coherent leavers originally in that thread. I think they too got bored of the same leave posters shouting 'sovereignty and immigrants' and ended up not bothering, like a lot of remainers too.

I wonder how the mods voted :p

Well, I disagree with you in the fact that Brexiteer * is frequently used on the news and in many political discussion, as is Remainer, and it most certainly is not being used in a pejorative sense, they have both entered the volcabulary as normal words now.

Whereas ******** is obviously pejorative.

* And it is in the Dictionary as "Noun, informal"

So I think it's just you being a bit sensitive on that one.....no toxicity implied ;)

double edit : whereas lib-tard is in the dictionary as "offensive, informal"

its always been this way, as I get older I find I get less less involved in heated discussion, partly because I don't care as much these days what others say and I don't have the time.

You're wrong, the term Brexiteer isn't pejorative/insulting merely descriptive, it's a combination of Brexit and Cavaliers (the good guys in the English civil war) used to describe people who voted for Brexit, just like Remainer is used to describe people who voted for Remain.

It's actually Brexiter that's the pejorative/insulting one, just it normally has two more letters before the -it.

Wasn’t tefal known for finding out people’s personal information and posting it online? Perhaps I’ve mistaken him for someone else but that’s pretty much the epitome of toxicity.

Heading for a civil war. In the meantime, the rich will get richer, and the poor, poorer.
Most toxicity on the internet is people venting their anger at the "system", how they've been dealt a bad hand, and how they've been royally shafted in life. Unfortunately, the anger is misdirected, and the recipient is in turn giving some other piece of meat a hard time.

That was nearly 10 years ago now and I admit I was young and a bell end.

I didn' post any personal info in regards to adress etc.

I posted the guys name and the woman he had a crush on/some personal events.

While the detective thing was fun truth of it was I added one of his mates on steam friends and they just told me to help wind him up.

But yes I would describe it as toxic as i admited to in my op along with my reasoning for it.

I was in a ****** situation and taking it out on somone online made me feel better. Same reason many bullies do things to others.
