My R9 280 3gb is dying a slow death, can't play anything now without ctd after 5 or 10 mins. It is stable for the time being just browsing the web and non demanding applications.

I'll be using it to play Skyrim, Fallout 4/NV and newer games.

I've got a i5 2500k running at 3.7Ghz, and 16Gb ddr3 RAM and use a 1080 monitor, it needs to have stable linux drivers since I boot into unbuntu for work, but will be playing on Win 10. I've got 630W PSU, a SSD for work, 1Tb and 500Gb mechanical drives for windows.

On the OC shop page there is a Palit 1050TI STORMX 4096MB on sale today which is in budget, it look liny compared to the ATI card I'm replacing but I guess it is a lot newer so things get smaller for similar power.

Does anyone have any experience with Palit? Or other recommendations?

Firstly, I'd look into giving it a clean/replacing the thermal paste. That might do the trick.

If it turns out that you do need a new card then I wouldn't bother with the 1050 Ti, unless you're happy with something providing about the same performance as the 280.

Currently, the RX 580 8GB is going for £300, which considering the climate, isn't that bad. Alternatively, there's the 3GB GTX 1060 for less, though I'd much rather opt for the 580. It all depends how much you're willing to spend.

£200 is really the absolute max budget there is.

I'm not sure the card is over heating, it was donated to me as it wasn't stable for them intitally but would run F4 fine for me after the first ctd.
I've was monitoring temps with the catalyst tool and it never seems to get super hot, I under clocked it a bit and then was more stable but then its has resorted to crashing F4, F:NV and Skyrim really quickly.

I'll have a look at temps on Skyrim and report back.

This is exactly what is happening to my r9 280 3gb. I was hoping for some recommendations for a new gpu. I would pay between 250-300. But im not sure what to buy.

Definitely not over heating, it is corrupting on the BIOS.

Think it's going to be a 1050ti unless there is anything at £200 I should check out.

You should really find another £40 for a GTX 1060 its much better than a 550TI which isn't even much of an upgrade from a 280X.

Family, Friends? beg if you must :D

Of course it’s worth it, a few fps lower than a 6gb version.

Some places you can walk into and buy a brand new 1060 3gb for £230

£240 for a card with 3GB of VRAM and for a card you could get for £180 last year - I play FO4 and mod it too,and VRAM usage can actually get reasonably high with texture mods.

That is more like a 33% increase in price, rather than the 20% markup on a RX580 8GB and it was for the best RX580 model out there too.

If anything I would try and find a GTX1060 6GB deal,or just get a secondhand GTX970 4GB for under £200. FO4 does tend to run a bit better on Nvidia cards generally.
