Incident reported of a Red Arrow Plane going down :(

Initial reports are sparse, happened after an incident at RAF Valley in North Wales.

Hope everyone on board (do they have two crew?) got out...

e; Initial reports are a bird strike and the pilot ejected. Unconfirmed at current.

MOD have confirmed a crash involving a Red Arrows Jet at RAF Valley.

We are aware of an incident today at RAF Valley involving a Hawk aircraft. We are investigating the incident.

Apparently it's Red3 and he had apparently ejected. Air Ambulance on scene.

Although how accurate any of that is post the MOD statement is... who knows. Especially as RAF Valley are home to No4 Squadron that operate the Hawk T2, not the T1A that the Reds use.

Image taken from Facebook. I kept it small as it doesn't show much.

From BBC News: "It is understood two people were on board the aircraft and eyewitnesses said they saw them ejecting from the jet."

I would be amazed if there is not lots of stills and video of this, there is a dedicated spotters car park at the end of the runway. When we were down there with our Apaches last year it was full everyday.

Hope it all turns out for the best!

BBC have some photos. It's a Red Arrows Hawk T1A.

Witnesses have said they saw a single chute, which is good. The MB Mk10 is ZeroZero rated so that's a help. I'm just hoping it wasn't the ferry flight back to Scampton as it would have been extremely likely to have a Blue in the back seat of the Hawk then. :(

Oh and the "Should be banned/disbanded/waste of money" crowd are out and about now it seems.

Well this will be interesting as the MoD placed a ban on non essential flights of aircraft with the MB MK10, and if this was a ferry flight, chances are, that will be argued as non essential.

The Reds Pilots go to Valley to use the Simulators to practice emergency procedures, it's why 1-5 were there today. I'll understand if you didn't know that, but I'd very much call that essential.

Eyewitness accounts sound like it was coming in to land when it got into trouble? If so maybe didn't have a lot of time to decide to eject

Conflicting accounts to whether 1 or 2 parachutes were seen

One of the eyewitnesses is fairly adamant that he only saw one 'chute, so it seems highly likely only the pilot banged out in time. Another eyewitness account says that they were coming out of a loop at the time of the crash..

Tragic, RIP and fair skies
