So I live on a row of 3, I want FTTP and they came 3 weeks ago to install the fibre box onto side of his house, which I had no idea about. The engineers then knocked on and asked if they can run cable along top of his guttering, they said No

I went round and told him I had no idea it will be installed on side of his house, and then explained that he wont see the cable. He told me the roof is being done, but once done it can be okay

Its been 2 and a half weeks now, and they have finished the roof and now starting the garden, I'm tempted to go round and ask him if we are okay to proceed ( being that I have BT chief engineer in email as I complained, so time is of essence )

Then again I don't want to look like I'm mithering and ruin the whole thing, if he says no, they will have to dig around the front and install it on my side, which will cost me 5-20k, and I won't be paying that

I do see his side of the story, he wants to get his side in order, but then again, am I being selfish? It will take 2-3 minutes to run a cable near his fascia board, and each week passes by is time I could be used to explore other options

What would you do?

They, he, they, he... whaaa? This is confusing.

So you're getting FTTP and BT are installing the box on someone else's house. Then BT are going to run a cable along the roof to your house so you can get your connection. Your neighbor asked you to wait until his roof is done.

So now his roof is done, why not just ask him again?

sorry typing on phone, so was all over the shop

They aren't running it across his roof, they are running the wire under his guttering, near the fascia board

Yeah you have it correct, the roof is done, but guys are still there, they are doing something and I honestly hate mithering people " is your roof done now? if not, when will it be done "? "

I'm already on the backfoot because they installed the box on the side of his house, but to be honest, its only a box, and then a cable ( which existing copper wire runs across ) I don't know if hes being difficult for sake of it? Thats my main point

Its not like you've been asking two times a day though is it? Seems like you've only asked once, its hardly mitering if you ask once more. Sounds like its dragged on a bit.

I think you're overthinking this. Just go round and ask politely if the roof is finished and if they say no just ask them to let you know when it's done.

You're being a mardy bum. If you watch Jordan Peterson videos like everyone on OCUK does then he will tell you to go round and kick his door in and demand the wire be put up now.

Oh man I thought I overthought things. If you just let him know time is a bit of the essence hence you're enquiring, but you aren't trying to rush him because there's clearly nothing in it for him, and you do it in a reasonably polite way, then no issue.

Okay, Thanks for advice, it seems I need to man up and just go and ask, which I will, Now!

Now lets change this topic to my other thought, would it bother you if openreach installed a fibre box on gable end of your house?

If they installed it without asking then yes I would want to removed and never to be installed again.

If they asked then no issue.

It'd annoy me. But I know they have the legal authority to do it, and they're nobbers about that fact. I'm not going to take against my neighbour for it.

Don't FTTP boxes hum with fan noise? I'm susceptible to annoyingly quiet noises, I suspect a box on the wall outside my place would drive me insane
