Hi

Ive owned asus routers for a while now, my latest AC86u has a feature called AiProtection, it seems by default it is disabled, Im just wondering if its advisable to enable this feature.

Does anyone have it enabled and have found it to be ok without any effect on router performance.

Thanks

ASUS with gaping holes in router firmware? It’s not like that’s a regular thing and they had to agree to external auditing for many years as well as paying a large fine in the US last year. Oh, wait!

I actually never enabled it throughout the past years I've owned it. Although reading the thread in #3, seems I should...

Just keep your firmware updated, I check at least once a week for updates. Personally, I'd rather chance it with hackers than have my router sending data to Trend Micro. If a hacker really wants to get into your system I shouldn't think a consumer router will put up much resistance anyway, Asus or not.

Hasn't the AiProtection actually been one of the vectors for vulnerabilities recently in Asus routers? I seem to recall reading something like that.

Well you're giving Trend Micro permission to have your router 'call home' and send data to them so yes that is a big security hole in itself. It might very well increase security against hackers but you're putting your trust in Trend Micro and there's a possibly data being sent to them might be intercepted.

Hi i can kind of understand where your coming from here but is this not is all a bit big brother conspiracy theory type stuff ?
At the end of the day you have to trust someone, you trust your banks (they collect various things, spending habbits ect ect and pass it on to credit reference agencies), heck if you read half the pc game terms of service you give them permission to scan your computer ect ect.
