I checked Techpowerup Recent Database Updates and I was very surprised to see Radeon E9171 MCM which I never heard of it launched last year on 3 October 2017 and checked OCUK forum searched for past threads on AMD MCM GPU or Radeon E9171 MCM and came up with no threads or posts so I now start a new thread.

Radeon E9171 MCM appeared to be the first AMD GPU Polaris 12 to use MCM chip design, I find it really very interested to noticed the MCM chip packed 4GB with 4 GDDR5 chips on the same package as GPU. I been read past posts from guys ridiculously claimed it was no way possible to put GDDR5 chips on the same package as GPU that was why HBM and HBM2 was much better than GDDR5 because it save PCB space so that is now no longer true, irreverent and did not matter anymore with MCM chip package.
I am not exactly sure why Intel decided to go for very expensive single chip HBM2 with Vega M Polaris 22 chip on EMIB chip package which had far too much empty spaces instead of much cheaper GDDR5 with same memory bandwidth as a single HBM2 chip. Vega M's EMIB chip package certainly has very plenty space to put 4GB with 4 GDDR5 chips OR 8GB with 8 GDDR5 chips on it.
The next few years will be very interesting with GPU MCM probably with a slight large MCM chips would have enough room to put 350-400mm2 GPU die on the same package with 4 GDDR7 chips based on DDR5 3D stack technology allowed to stacked up to 64GB.
