PUBG and Fortnite are two of the hottest games of the moment. While the games share some similarities, thus far they have managed to coexist without significant trouble. However, that is no longer the case since PUBG has taken Epic Games to court in South Korea over alleged copyright infringement.

This sue because they are taking money from me has to stop i cannot see this lasting in court can you?

I skim read the story earlier on the BBC. Surely it could be argued that PUBG copied the concept of finding weapons and last man standing idea from Quake/Doom/UT/etc? I've never played either game although my son likes Fortnight. I hope the legal action fails as it's just ridiculous now.

I'm surprised there isn't something in the EULA of unreal engine that prevents a user suing Epic.

Still I'm not sure what pubg actually has a copyright on.

Everything they've done has been done before.

Clearly I'm not clued up on the games industry but I'd have thought saving money and putting money into fixing their game to bring players back would be better.

i just dont see this going far i think it is a little pathetic
i wonder what they will do when COD4 comes out with their version of battle royal

Meh there were a dozen BR type mods for games like Quake 1/2/3, etc. as well as other games. Unreal had last man standing modes as well, etc.

I have to say, the first time I tried Fortnite I did mention to the guy I was playing with that it has copied PUBG quite blatantly in some respects. I don't mean the concept, as quite rightly has been mentioned earlier in this thread that Battle Royale/looting and shooting has been done many times before. But I meant in similarities in some of the animations or graphics etc. IIRC I think it was one of the progress bar for when bandaging I think.

Game concept or major mechanics, think they are taking the mick a bit as again, they didn't invent it.

it's not often you and i will agree but +1 to that. fix what they have themselves then worry about fartnite.

edit: wonder when pubg will have a pop RoE - that's a complete and utter pubg rip off with vitrually no attempt to hide it!

Didn't PUBG try taking Epic to court several months ago for the same thing and dropped the suit?

If Epic really wanted to dig their heels in they could revoke PUBG's access to the Unreal Engine and basically kill the game dead.

I'm no expert, but could they legally do something like that? basically just revoke their right to continue using the Unreal Engine.
