Do not buy phones from Samsung ever again

Not massively bothered as far as the version of Android goes, a couple of years is okay for me. Even though I might keep my current phone for a few years now I don't really care about having the latest version, I've just had the update for my current S7 and it honestly wouldn't have bothered me if I hadn't, just not enough changes to make me care at the moment.

However I think they should have to supply security updates for longer, do they tend to do that for a longer period or not? But anyway, this seems normal, so who you gonna use instead if this is an issue?

Personally I wouldn't buy Samsung again because I think they're over priced, but that's a completely separate reason.

Use a custom rom - that's what I'd have done if my old Note 4 that my father used, was still kicking around. This isn't Google, nor Androids fault - but Qualcomm iirc has they support their SoC's for a limited time.

Thinking about loading a custom rom onto my s7 edge now I've paid the contract off but worried it may kill it as its almost 3 years old now

It's usually only around two years. Google had an extra year for security patches but didn't know they increased the OS updates to 3 years. That makes the Pixels even more tempting... A good phone usually lasts me 3 years so that fits my usual upgrade cycle.
