Hey all, long time since ive been on here!

Ive got a pc i used to use for gaming, i5 2500k, radeon hd6970 (which i think is now toast) 8gb ram, p8p67 deluxe mobo, couple of SDD and a few HDD.

Is an upgrade needed?

I dont know what intel socket is current or what cpu, or even what GPU is king.

Is it worth trying to fix the dead rig? Not even sure where to start, fire it up and dont get a picture and there are no outputs on the mobo to test if its the card, get a new card and try it?

still a semi decent rig, there.

if you have the parts, possibly. the cpu, board, ram, (gpu) is dead-end tech, so the cost of trying to figure out what's wrong may cost more than buying a new set of parts (unless you want to buy off the MM)

fire it up and dont get a picture and there are no outputs on the mobo to test if its the card
not always the gpu

The 2500k has an IGP so are you certain that there is no output on the MB? Haven't looked it up but would be my first port of call.

Thereafter, depending on the games you play and the resolution, a new GPU as a bare minimim.

The rest is dependent on expectations and budget.

Perhaps a little more detail.on monitor and what you intend to play and of course budget.

If the only thing toasted is the GPU and your budget is limited, you can get away with that and be able.to catch on the games you have missed over the last couple of years before going large on a new rig

1080p is what i will play on, would like to figure out if it is knackered though, where would you start? trouble shooting wise i dont know where to start
