Glasgow should hang its head in shame, inexcusable dereliction of duty in protecting an iconic world famous building... again !

Comes a time when no more Scottish public money should be wasted on a clearly doomed building, leave it as a burnt out shell or demolish it and build an Aldis.

This is just tragic to be honest. It’s an incredibly beautiful building and it’s such a shame for all the work that is going to be lost. It’ll be interesting to find out how it happened, expanding foam was the cause last year...
Certainly sounds like the whole thing will be demolished, leaving Mcintosh’s Masterpiece nothing but a memory.

The fire has also apparently destroyed the roof of ABC, another impressive and important building. Terrible!

Surely it's covered by some sort of buildings insurance?

The building was designed by Charles Rennie McIntosh. This isn’t about money, it’s the simple fact that the building is iconic and once gone will never be replaced.
When it was set ablaze four years ago it probably would have been easier and cheaper to demolish and start again but that wasn’t an option due to the historic and artistic importance of the building.
Read up about him if you don’t know who he was.

Second significant fire there's been in the city in just a few months, a couple of roads/pedestrianised areas have been closed off since Victoria's nightclub caught fire in March so this is going to add to the chaos.

would love to know why they'd only just started installing a sprinkler system, what was prioritised before it? it's a primarily timber framed interior.. and they had 4 years to get it done?!

Hoses being ran from the clyde up to Sauchiehall St (1.2km)

I dont really get what is so great about it from the pics it jist looks like any ge Eric riverfront office/apartment building that's going up all over the country

I know it's in a lousy location, narrow streets and a fierce incline, but the heroic fire service are to be congratulated for
not actually doing very much except stopping the fire from spreading south of the Clyde.

With their failings at Grenfell in the public eye it's about time the Fire Service's unwritten protection from criticism by the press was reviewed.

To paraphrase Oscar Wilde to lose a building once is unfortunate, to lose it twice is carelessness bloody stupid.

Whole (commercial side) road is closed now, No one will be enjoying the nightlife here for a while. I hope the businesses get relief.

Surely one of the entire points of the restoration from last time should have been to use fireproof materials / make the building as fireproof as possible? And yet it's completely burned down again.
