Hey guys, sorry if this has already been posted. I couldn't find a thread about it. THIS new smart phone definitely got my juices flowing. Looks premium and great specs but no mention of price. Undecided on the camera ;)

Completely flawed phone in many ways. I do agree it looks great though.

1. Good luck fitting a case on that.
2. Motorised mechanism means it'll pick up dirt/debris/sweat from the heavy amount of use it will get everytime you unlock the thing.
3. Mechanism means kiss your IPxx rating goodbye.
4. Mechanism = shorter battery life due to the constant actuating during the course of a day.
5. Pop up module means they likely cannot fit much of a decent camera lens in there due to its limited thickness.

Probably more cons to list but I'll stop here. I still own a (now old) Oppo Find 5 (snapdragon 400 soc) which is my backup phone. That thing has ultra thin steel bezels and is built like a tank so whilst I do admire Oppo's build quality, I cannot see the X doing well. Their rom support has always been diabolical too.

The design is ok but the price is very steep: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/201...rtphone-notch-with-a-motorized-pop-up-camera/

Remember, this isn't a silly concept; this is a real phone that is really going to be for sale. Oppo is greatly expanding its distribution with this device, and it will launch in Asia, Europe, and North America. For specs, you're looking at a high-end device with a Snapdragon 845, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, and a 3730mAh battery. It comes with Android 8.1 and Oppo's "ColorOS" skin, plus the phone will participate in the Android P beta. The price is high-end too: €999, or about $1,157.

30 seconds in, and this guy is killing me... not in a good way.

Edit: I couldn't stand much more than 2 minutes of this guy.... phone looks nice though.

Wow, I was considering Oppo for my next phone. Good feedback Kainz, certainly looks style over substance given what you have said.

No fingerprint scanner, instant no buy. It uses face ID so the camera is constantly going up and down. would have been better if it was a manual open of the camera and you only open when only taking photos.

Oppo make some excellent devices and their previous phones are superbly built, providing you are willing to install a custom rom on the thing (ColourOS sucks hard).
The issue with the X is that no phone imo should have any moving parts. Shock and vibration tests are done on these phones before they leave the factory to ensure that they are robust but that is no good to the customer when the slightest drop stops that mechanism/motor from functioning. There are too many cons and now that I've seen how much they're proposing to charge for it - they need to really revise that.

Looks like Linus has one too now.

Edit: Took my Oppo Find 5 (running Android 4.4.4!) out of storage today to charge it up a bit. This thing is so solid with the steel surrounds that I once used it as a hammer in our workshop :o

Who the **** is that bearded guy in the first post and why has he got millions of views? Wanted to punch him in the teeth within 1 minute.
On the handset, its feels more like a tech demo than an daily option though it's nice to see a few manufacturers trying to do something new and different rather than just copy paste a notch.
