Thai cave rescue - One of the divers has died

Musk is really starting to go off the rails recently.

He's really on his way to that South Park episode.

These pictures of the team after they found out about Saman Gunan are quite something. Imagine being 13 or so years old, thinking you're going to die in a cave, being rescued and then finding out this hero gave his life for you. How do you deal with that?

I wonder if any of the boys will consider a career in the Thai Navy after this experience. That would be quite something.

they're not even currently recognised as citizens of Thailand (problem with being an ethnic minority in a less developed nation), perhaps that will change though after this

Several months ago: various idiots praise Musk for suggesting that he will set up a website for rating the credibility and reliability of media outlets.

Now: Musk calls someone a paedophile just for criticising a PR stunt.

What!?

While that was idiotic of Musk - the guy used some legitimate complaints as a vehicle for attacking Musk with comments like shove it up his behind, etc. and Musk has provided evidence he was working with several leading people involved and gave them the option at every stage to veto the idea:

EDIT: Though amusingly it seems the media might be somewhat responsible here for escalating things a bit between them for their own ends as they seem to have misrepresented who Vern was (now edited in most articles) and exact wording of his and Musk's initial responses.

I’m sure he was in touch with the rescuers, but they weren’t likely to flatly turn down potential help and posting a blow by blow account of his efforts on Twitter was totally unnecessary and self-aggrandising. He has gotten a lot of publicity out of this despite not actually accomplishing anything and that should make anyone suspicious of his motives - especially given that he is so defensive that he has called an actual rescuer a nonce just for not speaking about him respectfully.

He needs to take a break from social media because this will cause a lot of damage. He wanted to gamble with children's lives using a untested vehicle whilst completely ignoring advice from professionals. Sounds like a lot of ego b.hurt to me.

He has received so much publicity over this whilst everyone including the media have forgotten about all the contributors, the morale boosting people cooking food, the villagers being transported to and fro to the site dropping off supplies and even the lady who owns the now borked rice fields due to the rescue efforts.

Musk is a bit of a knob to be honest. He's starting to believe in his own personality cult.

Starting to? People like Musk, who raise billions of dollars of investment, pioneers fields that others shy away from, send stuff to space because he wants to etc. absolutely have to believe in their own personality cult. Otherwise they'd be normal :p

Wasn't really much of a chance to see if Musk was going to accomplish anything or not anyhow due to the decision to take advantage of a narrow window before things were likely to change for the worst - it would have taken another day or two at the very least before Musk could have put his ideas into practical use as per the email snippet above where they told him to keep going incase they needed other options if the window they aimed for didn't pan out - which mercifully it did.

Sure, but why has Musk continued to publicise his fruitless efforts?

Imagine this behaviour in a different context. There is a house fire down the road so someone calls the fire brigade and the residents are rescued by the professionals. A local inventor, who started working on a DIY oxygen kit in his garage when he heard about the fire, then shows up with his creation. He may have had good intentions and the invention may or may not have worked but that's academic because the job is done. He still seeks publicity and praise for his heroic efforts. When one of the firemen suggests he should give over, he calls him a paedo.

This man would be a total knob. Musk is no different, but some think he's a real life Tony Stark and is going to take us to Mars someday so they defend him.

It isn't quite like that though this wasn't like a regular building fire and even the experts were going to specialists for help and asking for ideas from all over.

Yeah he didn't seem particularly bright tbh.. perhaps a bit of a chip on his shoulder etc.. so just aired his personal views about Musk when he didn't necessarily know what had gone on behind the scenes and should have perhaps just not commented to the media other than airing an objective opinion re: the device.

Musk will probably have to make a pay out though if pursued over the pedo thing, pretty stupid of him to lash out like that.
