If you think it’s waffle that’s fine. I just feel that properly issued licenses will do more to help the situation than simply banning staffies. There so many thousands of them out there, do you honestly think everyone will just give up their dog?
The responsibe good owners will very sadly do so, but the retard crowd won’t, and there’ll be hundreds, maybe thousands of illegal dogs out there still in the wrong hands and probably being bred illegally. Wouldn’t surprise me if a demented type of staffie black market popped up. There’s still well over 2000 pit bulls in the uk despite them being banned in 1991 and exempted dogs having to be neutered, and that’s just the ones that are registered.
How will licences help? As I've pointed out criminals just don't bother getting one. And also consider this...do driving licences stop drivers breaking the law?

They won’t solve the problem completely, but like the gun licence, they’ll at least help a bit towards more dogs being owned by responsible people through interviews, home visits and background checks.

I’ve never agreed with punishing the majority for the actions of a minority, which is what banning staffies would be.
Anyway, it’s not happening, so all’s well that ends well.
I'm not sure how it would be punishing them (I'm assuming that some sensible measures for existing owners like neutering + muzzle rather than a mass confiscation), they can still buy a dog in future they just don't get to chose one with massively powerful jaws that is going to cause disproportionate injuries (and potentially death) if it does attack.

And what is the Psi of a Staffordshire Bull Terrier? I don't think it's anywhere near as powerful as a Rottweiler or some Mastiffs?
no, dogs will still exist, some dogs won't have babies as they'd be neutered (a standard practice for plenty of pet dogs in the country)
no idea, I'm not bashing my argument just on one factor here - see the deaths from pit bull type dogs (including Staffies) for example (US figures give more data if you're interested - though staffies fall under pit bull type there)

yes, dogs will still exist, a type of dog created by humans choosing to selectively breed dogs for fighting bulls then again selectively breed for fighting other dogs would no longer exist
I'm not advocating wiping out a species here - I'm advocating eventually eliminating (by stopping the breeding of) some dogs that were artificially created in the first place and that pose a far bigger danger when they attack relative to other dogs. Any dog can attack, others dogs don't have the same issues though as pit bulls.

Ban all dogs apart from those assisting the disabled, sick of having to slow down to idiots unleashing their hounds on my cycle tracks and dodge the **** they leave lying around.

It's hard to find an actual statistic but Pitbulls are around 235 and staffs would be less than that. Rottweilers 325, some Mastiffs more than that. Not relevant I know but humans are at 120, lions 600.
A lot of the deaths that have occurred in recent years could have been prevented. Some were dogs that had been rehomed, others were dogs that turned whilst being looked after by the owners relative. I seem to remember a baby being killed when it was left alone in a room with a dog. Then there was the guy who died whilst being filmed, who had fed his dog crack!
Most owners are pretty decent, but they are a very popular dog, so there are obviously a small percentage of bad owners. And devil dog headlines sell newspapers.
