James Gunn... *****

So correct me if i'm wrong but is the timeline:
Guy posts dark jokes
Guy deletes dark jokes
Guy joins disney and makes some films
Someone finds/remembers dark jokes
Guy gets fired by disney?

Because if that's the chain of events seems kind of a **** thing for disney to do, especially seeing as their founder wasnt exactly known for his good will to all men...

^somebody dug up an archived twitter account however you do that.

Tweets are pretty crude and dodgy with some saying it's jack the lad joking stuff and others saying it's Freudian stuff. Lot of heat on Disney hence they fire him.

And the usual "the opinions of [insert name of employee here] do not necessarily reflect the opinions of [insert company name here]" wouldnt cut it?

I mean if he didnt do it while employed (ie that there's a reasonable expectation of behaviour) then who gives a monkeys?

Well have you read them, they are dodgy I just can't see how you would joke like that. Maybe some do. Anyway as someone said, Disney being very children orientated I guess they thought nip it in the bud asap to prevent potential firestorm and loss of income.

Dodgy sure, but who really gives a damn? Maybe i've been watching too much south park....

If someone had monitored everything i had said in my life, then i would probably regret half of what i had said, and be sued for the other half !

Judge someone on who they have become, not what they said 10/20 years ago.

If they were in their teens 10 years ago id agree. In their 40s? No...absolutely not.

Dangers of living in the ultimate fast becoming PC universe.

GotG 3 will be **** now. 2 was pretty **** anyway.

Creative people tend to be a bit off the wall anyway. "Joking" about stuff like this doesn't offend most normal people that can see that he is joking. Is it bad taste/sick jokes, maybe. Do Disney want to associate with that, probably not? Money talks sadly.

Was it actually Disney that made the call? That surprises me in some way. Although Disney have a family friendly image to protect, Marvel studios is pretty much run independently of Disney and Kevin Feige is the primary decision maker.

“The offensive attitudes and statements discovered on James’ Twitter feed are indefensible and inconsistent with our studio’s values, and we have severed our business relationship with him,” Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn told the New York Post in a statement on Friday.

That's a shame. I read the tweets in an image (assuming that was all of them) and though I can see why Disney wouldn't like it (it was dark offensive "humour") - The tweets were known about when he signed on and he isnt just a director. He wrote both GOTG movies and even performs (mo cap) in them occasionally (baby Groot dancing) and he was even involved in bits of Infinity War so it's quite a big loss for the MCU.

It's going to be quite hard for somebody to replicate that style.

All this talk of Disney being a kid orientated company so it's no wonder they fired him, if the Fox merge goes through does that mean they'll never produce a film above PG. I guess family guy (etc) will get a whole lot tamer if this is the way Disney want to go.

I'm usually going to defend people when their old tweets resurface to haunt them after some saddo has gone through to dig them up. I mean, really when you make it big the first thing you should do is delete them to at least attempt to protect yourself.

On this occasion though, a person that can broadcast those sorts of messages (this is dark humour, you say this stuff in private not on Twitter ffs) and bring into question their character should be no where near a position of power such as director. He's an idiot and cannot be defended.

I'm of the opinion if someone is stupid enough to post stuff like that online and link themselves to it they should be big enough to take any backlash including losing their job.

Sounds like he is?

My words of nearly a decade ago were, at the time, totally failed and unfortunate efforts to be provocativeI. I have regretted them for many years since — not just because they were stupid, not at all funny, wildly insensitive, and certainly not provocative like I had hoped, but also because they don’t reflect the person I am today or have been for some time.

“Regardless of how much time has passed, I understand and accept the business decisions taken today. Even these many years later, I take full responsibility for the way I conducted myself then.”

All I can do now, beyond offering my sincere and heartfelt regret, is to be the best human being I can be: accepting, understanding, committed to equality, and far more thoughtful about my public statements and my obligations to our public discourse. To everyone inside my industry and beyond, I again offer my deepest apologies. Love to all.”

News flash.

Everyone has said stupid ****, and made tasteless jokes...

But don't worry the twitter mobs are probably perfect people who never do any wrong. They're perfectly tolerant and PC.... except they're not.
