Woken up last night.

So he reversed and went down a few of the cobbles but then he seemed to speed up in reverse and go further down. Maybe h thought he was in 1st gear and was in reverse instead. Doh !

Might very well be that due to the rain/slipperiness that once the back went down there was no grip to dig himself out so the moment the wheels spun it just slid backwards.

yeah granite can be damn slippy

I agree with kindai though that should be pretty darn easy to pull out. Just needs to be done really steady. The only possible difficulty is going to be the angle of the rope.
A landy with a winch would probably be even better as typically a bit higher up and rated for decent weight, although make sure its got decent tyres or you could be adding to your car in the garden collection ;)

Surely this is an insurance job? Especially from your point of view, pulling the car out is going to ruin your steps and possibly damage the house.

Deny them access to your land lol.

Charge them £20 per minute if they want to be on it. Also charge £100 per day storage fee for the car.

I would also be consulting their insurance company. Brick work does not really like lateral forces that will result from the car being yanked out?

The way once the car had stopped with the lights on & wipers still going just makes me think the driver was thinking to himself "oh **** how am I going to get out of this one"!

You could then of course claim a whole extension is required to the property to repair the brickwork and that window!

Cant see the image on my iPhone unfortunately (finding this a lot recently) but I’m just at a loss as to why the neighbour seems to think he knows more about recovering a vehicle from wherever than professionals who do it daily....

That video just goes to show that some people should just quit driving. The number of people driving around with no spacial awareness is just shocking. We live in a cul-de-sac and the number of times people screw up turning is just appalling. The bin men get in here with their big truck no problem yet some people seem to struggle with something as small as a Polo. They either inch their way around, stop suddenly when they actually have several feet behind them or hit next doors concrete bollards in their garden. The standard of driving these days is abysmal.

Oh, come on. The guy failed to spot a drop in the rain and the dark in an unfamiliar situation. Yes, it was a big mistake and came out very badly but it's hardly "just quit driving", it's just a momentary error.

No neighbour involved, the car owner, his parents and me. I do know more than that particular recovery driver. He tried to tell the family his truck weighed 12 tonnes and the car would weigh at least 3 tons. He had a 7.5 ton car transporter.
Andi.
