May have lost my job so looking for advice on saving money

Suspension is normal while investigations are carried out. hopefully all goes well for you tho
Would also need to get past my feelings of not wanting to go back after all this hassle..

Most admit with all this not knowing what happening going on it really starts to make you lose interest in the work place and make you wonder if you do want to go back...

they're just investigating.
also a lot of managers really aren't used to doing this kind of thing so a lot will just run it completely by the book and not say anything to you that isn't cleared by HR first. Right now there isn't much you can do so try not to panic.

^^ This. But it doesn't hurt (and most of us fall into this category) to go through your expenditures and see where you can make savings!

So should I be looking for another job while this investigation is going on

Or can hunting for another job while there doing this investigation cause more harm...

only you can answer the first question - do you like the job? would you want to stay? the usual questions to ask before looking for another job.

it wont cause harm, you're unlikely to tell them you're looking anyway.

right now just try to stay calm, if you're been totally upfront on your posts then i don't see why you should worry. They're following their HR policy and so there will be an investigation and you'll have a proper chance to tell them what happened from your point of view. You might get a warning for it, that depends on how out of character you were. On the other hand this could be what they've been waiting for - an easy way to get rid of a troublemaker (him not you) and they're going through the process to make it squeaky clean, not that they'd have to if he's a temp that's only been there 4 months.

During the meeting just remember to stay calm, listen, state your points, check things you don't understand, take notes and if you're feeling stressed you can ask for a break. Having a work colleague go with you can help but don't forget that you will have to give them notice of who it is that's going with you and don't just turn up with someone on the day as they could refuse.

I went through a 'dry' spell last year after taking a break from working for 6 months prior to my move abroad. So I had planned ahead in terms of spending but some luxury items were cut out regardless as it was just a waste. SKY is an absolute joke, a rip off if anything. Drop it and expect to pay your remaining term off in one lump to get out of the contract.

Your internet, whilst it's not fast, do you really need 40mb/s? Try and downgrade and knock the price down to half but again, due to contract it might not be likely until renewal.

Car and motorbike, do you need both if times get seriously desperate? If not, can you sell one or the other and pick up a replacement after you're on your feet? If both have finance, look into your finance contract, you may be able to sell the vehicle as long as the buyer pays the finance company directly.

Buying a bicycle is likely the biggest saving you'll get for essentially nothing, go to a charity shop and see if they have any old road bikes for sale.

With it being a tiny island where I live and this company having around 50 staff working for them it would not take very long at all before they heard that I was looking around for another job...

Yes I did love my job there .But how much that could change if I ever do get it back after this I don't know..As am guessing it would take a very long time till you would feel your job is safe again if ever...

Sorry changing the subject again

If they do choose to dismissed or fired me in this investigation what happens with any holiday pay owned and working notice etc

Would I get any holiday pay owned for untaken holidays ?
Would I need to work any notice after the investigation ?

If you have done nothing wrong, there is nothing to fear.
If you have, however, been workshy/lazy/disruptive, or generally bad at your job, then this could be the way they can get rid of you easily.

It seems odd the other guy has not been suspended though, especially if he did do as you say!

Normally any holiday would be paid, and depending on your contract, they would put you on gardening leave till the end of your contractual notice if you presence would be thought to be disruptive.

However, if they deem an offence is violent, they could dismiss you straight away. Not sure how likely that is though!

Everything you need is here:

Perhaps this would be a good time to dig out your contract of employment and start reading through it. I'd also be enquiring as to why the divvy bloke hasn't also been suspended too, considering it is he that caused this problem in the first place.

When they called me in on Friday morning

They said that they knew I was a very hard worker and that my work was excellence.

They haven't suspended the other guy because they no saw his temper/stress and they never saw him throw my work bag so they have no proof apart from what I said happened...

Plus this guy is always really dead calm when he talks to the bosses...

They should have informed you of this when you were suspended. If there's an investigation and you've been suspended then it'll have to be on full pay, the reason you've been suspended could be that they deem you to be a threat to the business, I don't get why the other guy hasn't though.

Have they given you a date of when to go back for this investigation? You should get in contact and find this out.

Outstanding holiday pay would be paid to you.

Good luck OP, hope it works out for you.
Thanks

Yes...

All I can say is this
Due to me getting really stressed and being angry after he broke my mobile phone when it happened and not treating it professionally and acting out of character..(IE I was shouting at the person that broke my phone)

Management only saw me being stressed & angry after this happened..

If what you wrote in the other thread is accurate, regarding what happened - you might have a good case for constructive dismissal - certainly the damages for your phone. If someone threw something at you and you got upset, stressed and shouted, because your mobile got broken in the incident - it seems pretty disproportionate for you to be fired. I mean wtf do they expect you to do, sit there calmly amongst your broken things that have been thrown at you, and just "be all nice about it" ??

Sounds to me like you're either not telling the full story, or you're allowing yourself to be done over by your employer - you need to get serious and fight your corner.

It's pretty eye opening to see how you've written two threads about this, the second of which explains how you're basically going to experience serious financial hardship due to this incident - yet you only seem interested in laying down and taking it.

If it were me - the gloves would be coming off ASAP, I'd be looking at a range of legal options - get stuck in and hold them accountable.

He didn't throw anything at me...

When he threw the work bench (I was behind him and the bench when he threw it , I was not in front of it) so there was no danger to me
And my work bag he threw across the floor and not at me

And like I said before it only my word against his so it not that easy..

Quick look at OP and can see significant savings as other said.
Drop the phone back to a sim only deal or PayG, nothing more than 7 quid or so a month.
Sky, right in the bin - i have no idea why folk keep this kind of money outgoing on this service, its awful.
Car, gone right away. You have a bike and unless you need to ferry family then in the bin.
Mbike, again you dont exactly have far to go where you are, prob worth dropping that as well. you cant drive both the bike and car at the same time either.
Internet, not much can be done here. I would bin the whole lot though for the meantime, you have a phone with a mobile and thats all you need for calls, internet access is a luxury, you can go to a library if need be.

Yes get a push bike, ditch all the above and the amount you save will be huge it doesnt need to be permanent.
