Hi all,

Just wondering what brand do you normally go for? & any particular model of said brand sticks out to you?

i've just preordered the GEFORCE RTX 2080TI XC ULTRA.

however wondering if this is a bad choice given its only a 2 Fan cooler & 2.5 slot.

MSI gaming X i remember was decent on 1080Ti

EVGA in my opinion is the best overall, with card quality and warranty.

To be honest. Any card from overclockers these days will typically cool well and have a decent warranty. I take a lot of pride in how my build looks so I do put a lot on a cards aesthetics.
Seems trivial. But they are all the same chip underneath. Price and aesthetics. Mostly.
Granted some like EVGA have particularly good warranties and some have better RMA times.

So i am starting to crack and thinking about an RTX 2080Ti (yes i know that makes me part of the problem yada yada yada but my gtx 980 is struggling).

out of the 2 who offers the best warranty / build quality as the cheapest seem to be between gigabyte windforce or the MSI "Duke".

thanks

(lol i never thought i would ever use the word cheap in a sentence regarding a graphics card costing £1050!!!!!)

I normally go MSI for because their Gaming X Twin Frozr is awesome, however if I jump in on 20x0 then I will get the same card as you as the three slot cooler is the best twin fan cooler on the market and will be better than most of the triple fan ones due to the extra thickness.

Both of the companies are good just choose the one that's cheapest. If the same, base it on looks.

cheers.
interestingly looking at the MSI and gigabyte pages at 1st glance.

the MSI warranty seems to be 3 years from delivery of the card.
the gigabyte seems to be 3 years from manufacture date on the card.

This may or may not be significant... That, and the fact that i like the backplate on the duke (really splitting hairs as looks i do not really care about) makes it advantage MSI

BUT

gigabyte has a good presence here on these boards which i respect AND the duke would not be from overclockers and TBH i quite like overclockers.

You know what, i may just wait till get get reviews of individual cards...... Thanks for your help and i hope i have not derailed OP at all. pretty sure i am onboard with a 20XX card now tho :)

This really isn't the case.

Some cards cool well, whilst others have poor cooling. Some have a 2 year warranty, whilst others have 5 years.

For me, I have bought lots of different brands but my fav of recent times goes to MSI. The cooler on the Gaming X 1080 Ti I have is great and quiet. The chips are a lottery with whoever you buy from, so hard to judge on that.

I look for a good warranty and as I no longer watercool, a good cooler.

I believe Gigabyte have an RMA office in the UK, so quick turn arounds - not 100% though.
Yea, i wont be buying From gigabyte again. their RMA is very good (they swapped my 7970s for a 7990 then gave me money back after the 7990 borked) however their support & acknowledgement of bugs is terrible.
all reported to one of the heads of support.

Example
1) reported a FAN issue on the gigabyte 1080TI windforce when using their software. after switching profiles fast Then fans would never spin up even at 90C - This was addressed & fixed. but never given credit for.
(good on gigabyte for fixing)

2) however on their Motherboards i reported 4 different bugs with 100% reproducible scenario to be fobbed off on their Ryzen Board.
  • Certain settings would result in 1.5V to the Ryzen 7 chip 100% of the time.
  • Certain HW monitors can corrupt the bios (100% reproducible by over a 100 users) gigabyte yet to achknowledge or fix the issue.
  • Smart FAn curve not working at shown in the BIOS
  • random forgetting saved settings.

If I was buying I'd be going with EVGA or Gigabyte given quality of their warranty & RMA operations.

Having Gigabyte rep active on the forums has helped many people out in some tricky sitiations.

You guys have to remember OcUK will also look after all the brands for their warranty period, so irrelevant of the brand you buy, on the basis you buy from us your in good hands. :)

Plus with brands like Asus we have advanced RMA, so we can literally swap out your product typical within 48hr. :)

My current card is MSI (980 gaming 4G) and whilst i did not do well on the silicon lottery other than that i really cant knock it. it has been a quality work horse for the last 4 years... it is quiet even when under load and no coil whine.

and whilst it sound a bit brown nosey my 2 mates who had cards from overclockers who developed faults both ended up with upgrades supplied from overclockers, so what gibbo said above is true as well.

Agreed. I am a big proponent of OcUK (albeit I haven't ordered my MSI Gaming X Trio 2080Ti from here as it was £200 dearer than where I ordered it) and great staff with good customer service.

UK for both GPU and Mobo but MOST GPU vendors have RMA for cards in the UK

helps to add weight to RMA or is another reseller site isn't pulling their weight
