Any love for the Jimny here?

I see that Suzuki have launched a new Jimmy. Now I have no intention of buying one as it won't fit my needs right now. But I started looking into them purely out of interest and it looks a great fun car. I love the idea of a really small petrol genuine 4x4.

In a world where cars are getting overly complex and larger I think it's a great little bit of fun and would love to have the spare cash and space to have one sitting there for a bit of off roading.

Any Jimny lovers on the forum?

I think that is where the love of the old one came in. By all accounts they can be turned into quite a capable off roader, and are simple enough to repair when the owner breaks it.

I really like the look of the new one, like a mini G Wagen :)

Unlikely I'll ever own one, but can certainly see the appeal

My missus wants one as she had one years ago. Great turning circle but not one for speed lovers.
It proved more capable than her brother in laws Ford Ranger over a 4x4 playground much to his annoyance.
If she changes her job then we might get one if she's happy with it.

I adore it. Really want one. Always liked the Jimny's actually, driven a fair few in Tobago where they are perfect vehicles.

Comments about G-Wagen styling are so widespread throughout the launch of the new generation, but what people don't seem to realise is the Jimny pre-dates the G-Wagen by 9 years and the newest generation actually looks more like the older generations than the wagen. If anything it would be more logical to say that the G-Wagens look like Jimny's!

Love it. Can't wait to see the price.

According to Carwow around the £16K mark. I think the old Jimny had a reputation for being a cheap and cheerful off-roader. In that it was easily modified, easy and cheap to fix and very simple vehicle to work on.

Looks wise it has a hint of a shrunken G-Wagon and To be honest I quite like the simple boxy look and minimalist interior. However I doubt it's anything like as easy to fix and has loads of ecomentalist gubbins associated with the engine that make it all but impossible for the DIY mechanic to work on.

Don't forget that these are only part-time 4WD, too – so you can only drive them on the road in RWD form. Otherwise, you can only use 4WD on rough or slippy surfaces (mud/snow/etc.).

Interested in getting one myself, although I must admit that its miserly NCAP performance has tainted my enthusiasm a little – particularly given the ever-decreasing standard of driving on UK roads. Quite a bit of passenger cell deformation and steering wheel intrusion/airbag ineffectiveness. Not too hot.

Not bad for what it is, on reflection, but that doesn't mean that it shouldn't be better.

Probably fine in a crash, just marked down heavily on pedestrian impact stuff and safety technology.

More to it than that, alas; it suffered from significant passenger cell distortion, substantial steering wheel intrusion, insufficient whiplash protection, poor airbag inflation and positioning, etc.
