Can we start moving dull politics into speakers' corner?

GD is now full of SJW, feminist, racist, and global politics rants. Shouldn't these be in speakers' corner if they have a serious point to make?

GD used to be fun, light hearted, a bit of a laugh. Now every other thread is dreary politics with news links and people being cross.

I've done this myself but will now endeavour to put these threads in SC. Who's with me? You're either with me or you're against me.

SC is full of died-in-the-wool bigots, there is no chance of educating them.

There are many immature, uninformed, "gamer" kids in SC, there is always a (remote) chance that they might be encouraged to "THINK" and not become racist, xenophobic, misogynist Tories ;)

100% this. It's becoming tiring and this is a great suggestion.

Have you been in the United Soviet Socialist Republic of Speakers Corner recently?

It is full of a bunch of hysterical, intransigent children having a temper tantrum. Anybody going in there saying something in support of Trump or not saying something the media tells them to parrot is an alt-righter (code word for Nazi...).

The funny thing is if they carry this on, in 2020 when Trump wins his second term they still wont realize it's their reaction that causes it and will point and scream at those they disagree with (with the usual istaphobicpbobaphobes with a sprinkle of alt-right).

In my view GD is a place needed to keep substantive discussion that isn't an anti-brexit/anti-trump/anti-media propaganda hub.

Mods will soon start cracking down on GD though.

To finish on a positive note, when i joined OcUK (for the second time after nuke) SC was a brilliant place that did have some excellent discussions. I can still remember some of the posts from cleanbluesky, my ownage of @tifr@if (or whatever his name was) and others. Since Brexit, it has just descended into chaos with posters who have differing views deciding to leave, giving up or even being warned off by moderators giving suggestions to not post (or thinly veiled warnings that continued posting will result in bans).

I still only go into SC now to have a laugh at the children reacting to Trumps latest funny tweet that they think spells WW3. Lol

That feeling when you don't realise that your post is the very point that the OP is making.

Awkward.

Lol the reason some of us don’t use SC is because we have no interest in it, the reason SC was set up was because of the trolling and lack of serious conversation, now people post in it in gd because nobody agrees with my pov

Maybe stop posting altogether if that’s how you feel.

Was the irony intentional? :p

On the bright side, at least ‘the Muslims’ are getting a break.

That's probably because anyone that objected to them was banned and the staunch defenders of the faith have either been jailed, blown themselves up or come to their senses!

Agreed op. GD has become a BBC rss feed.

Fixed :)

I agree it's all got depressing and I'm guilty of participating more than I should. I miss threads about embarrassing situations, people making cool stuff (RoboCain) and general geekery tbh.

You can try to convince yourself that you're smarter than the people you don't like here, but the reality is you're just too egotistical to see any other perspective than your own.

This is typical of some people, who upon seeing an opinion or statement that they don't agree with, simply want such things to disappear rather than having to confront them.

Vote "No" to Prop 1773: Censorship of anything certain posters here disagree with.

I think GD has matured over the years. It used to be full of spec me threads and very wet behind the ears poindexters. Now it has become a collective known for discussing the who, what and why; the bigger issues in life.
