First RTX2070 review

Well at least it beats a 1080.

Still though it's not exactly making the 1080 look obsolete.

I was worried the new cards would come out and make my gtx 1080 look bad but the gtx 1080 I got for brand new for £430 1 year ago is looking better and better with each new card that comes out.

The Turing turkeys keep on coming.

It shouldn't be a question of whether a 2070 beats a 1080,

It should be matching a 1080TI for that ridiculous amount of money.

Nice little card, if it is priced <500£ it might be a good deal.

I highly doubt it - I imagine they'll be £549 and upwards for decent coolers.

Edit: As per review, this is one of the highest clocked 2070s too.

Seems a little too close to a 1080 for me. You're looking at a pretty hefty outlay for little to no performance gain.

On top of that, 1080Ti's can be had for similar/less.

unlike the 1080ti vs 2080 which is a tough call between the 2, imo it seems looking in isolation the RTX 2070 vs GTX 1080 decision is much easier.

2070 all the way i think. Sure its £90 more expensive but it seems to be 15%ish faster across the board than the 1080 and with DLSS and RTX for the future as well.

on top of that there isnt the 11gb vs 8gb of ram conundrum that the 1080ti vs 2080 decision has,

of course where do you draw the line i suppose..... because the 2070 isnt a million miles off the price of a 1080ti either...

The GTX1080 has been on offer for under £400 recently.

Plus it is utterly hilarious the 70 series cards which were under £300 with the GTX970 are now £550 to £600.

that is a good price.... in which point then not so easy! i was just trusting the prices in that review!.

Well there were various offers at the end of last year for the GTX1080 for £440 to £460 with Destiny 2,etc included. So whereas in isolation it looks a nice bump in performance, its the price which really is causing the issues here. So GTX1070 to RTY2070 will look a decent bump for example, but not if you look at pricing. I suspect it will be more FPS for somewhat more money! :(

What's with the bogus Vega results:

Yeah I think my 1080 was £427 with destiny 2 about a year ago. I was worried at the time that new cards were round the corner and going to come out cheaper and faster but they took foreva to come out and are more expensive.

I think ocuk were doing a decent 1080ti for like £579 last week so if these come in around that price they are going to be a hard sell.

Overpriced RTX cards live on. I seriously hope these RTX cards sell poorly given the ridiculous pricing to performance over the 10 series GTX. I've never been so ashamed of this situation where pc graphics cards have become so obscene in pricing and the people who choose to defend the RTX range and its retail cost. It's nasty only because of the pricing we are seeing from Nvidia tbh.

Those Vega scores are off. Maybe due to the core clocks throttling on the Strix card.

Nearly £600 for a xx70 card is nuts.

What happened to those cards being between £300-£400?

Can't see these selling well as long as the 1080ti is still around. Not going to be much difference in price and the 1080ti is the better performer by a decent distance.

Definitely ignore their Vega scores, they're incompetent at actually benchmarking the card (as are 99% of "reviewers" unfortunately). Still, surprised to see the 2070 scores, I really didn't think they would do this much better than a 1080.

What I don't understand though is why there's almost no place having 2070s up for pre-order yet. Even across Europe I'm looking and not seeing any listings. I wonder why they're holding them back so long.
