1080Ti 4K?

At the moment I have a KFA2 EX OC, Z170-eMobo, I76700k, 16GB RAM 2400hz. I have just got a 4K TV and just wounded how much of a boost I would get from a 1080 to a 1080TI. I have had this PC since September 2016 but want ultra 4k settings and 60FPS. You think upgrading to a TI be worth it or buy a new PC with a 2020 and up to date PC?>

GPUs are due for a die-shrink in 2019 down to 7nm from the 16nm for both the Nvidia 10 series and AMD Polaris and Vega (Nvidia 20 series are on 12nm), so going from 16nm to 7nm should seen a pretty decent jump in both performance and power efficiency.

My suggestion would be don't get too hanged up with maxing graphic settings...your 1080 should be good enough to manage games at 4K at med settings at 40~45fps+. The chances are once you start gaming, you wouldn't really care too much about the graphic difference between max and med (though 40fps may still be the key issue as you would really notice it without and sync tech).

You could also consider dropping the res down to 3200x1600 as a middle ground as a reduction the load on the 1080. And if you not already done so, overclocking the 1080 would definitely help.

I don't really think you would need to upgrade your PC since you are only aimming for 60fps at 4K, not like 100~144fps at lower res which where CPU bottleneck would more likely to occur, but again you would definitely want to overclock your CPU.

Also the stock of 1080ti has pretty much almost depleted from retailers, so the price have shot back up comparing to a month ago.

2080ti is the first real 4k card.

1080ti is great and will do 4k, but in your position i would wait if you can for the gen that supersedes the 2080ti.

Just make sure your tv has low enough latency for you to game on without bad lag. If your input lag is high then gaming on it will be garbage.

The 1080 is quite memory bandwidth bound at 4k, so I would 2nd the suggestions to run below 4k.

When I had a 4k, I used to run most games at near max settings at 2.5-3k most of the time

Or time to pick up some older games... Looking forward to playing Dead Space again when I get an LG OLED for those inky blacks!

I have a titan Xp at 4k and quite easily consider this as a 4k card so have to disagree with the 2080 Ti being the first true 4k card. The 1080 Ti is a great card if you can sell your 1080 at a good price followed by pixjikg up a Ti for a good price it's a great card

1080ti easily runs 4k. Just turn settings down from ultra and lower or turn off AA. Heck even with my older 1070 I can game in 4k if I set the graphics options sensible.

Agree with few of the other comments here. Running a Strix OC 1080Ti under water in my HTPC and it plays games perfectly fine on my 4k TV. Sure may need to notch down some settings, but make some smart tweaks (like in assassins creed Odyssy, literally notching down Volumetric clouds see's a healthy jump in FPS for little visual change) and its a pretty enjoyable experience. Sure a 2080Ti will allow you to keep more eye candy on at a price.

In terms of performance boost from 1080 to 1080Ti, just need to look at benchmarks really. 3D guru has recent games with most recent GPU's in the list: https://www.guru3d.com/articles-categories/game-reviews.html

Honestly though, seeing as you have the 1080 already, give it a shot on your TV and see if your happy or not.

Even the 2080Ti sometimes can't do 4k/60fps/ultra settings

Shadow of the Tomb Raider (for example) was more like 50-55fps.

35-40% improvement over the 1080 in 4K. Imo wait for 2020, that's when you can expect the bigger cards to drop, 2019 isn't going to present anything better than a 1080.

Ok thanks all. A lot of sensible answers and will stick to lowering graphics. I wont be obsessed with trying ultra at 4K and instead on newer games turn it down to medium to high.

Have had a 1080 and if you do want to max things, it just cannot cope. This cards maxes everything for me. Playing Witcher 3 with everything on maximum (no hairworks, looks better without imo) and have it locked at 57fps with G-sync. It runs buttery smooth, which was not the case at all when I had the 1080. Only game witch had some dips that I have played is Final Fantasy 15, but as I understand that game has random dips no matter what you do. Was very playable anyway. It was using over 11Gb of VRAM in quite a few areas which was interesting to see.

If you are happy playing on on medium/high instead of ultra for the next 12 months or so until 7nm comes out, I would do that and get a huge upgrade at that point.
