It's just Zen+, AMD's APUs are always half a year (ish) behind their mainline CPUs. The pattern appears to be (for each revision):

Q1: Ryzen 7 CPU
Q2: Ryzen 3 & 5 CPU
Q3: Threadripper
Q4: APUs

Both Raven Ridge and Pinnacle Ridge were slightly late according to this pattern though, and Matisse is probably not going to appear in Q1 either. The server chips are kinda separate since they apparently aren't bothering with the "optimisation" step for those, so they only get released every two years.

LOL it really did show how Intel milked the userbase over the last decade :D

I went from 3930K to ThreadRipper as nothing Intel released really beat the 3930K all those years....

Also AMD's version keeps mobo compatibility for 3-4 years and still offers new Mobo revisions. IMO best way to do it.
 
Pretty nice deals on first gen TR going on if anyone is in need. You can get a nice ASRock Taichi board and 1950X and still get change from £800, worth looking around. ;)

I'm running 2400MHz memory with my current system, so to do Ryzen justice I *had* to get some lovely B-die memory. It will be interesting to see what the memory can run at in quad channel (4x 8GB DIMMs) - any thoughts?

Below is what my 4 sticks of B-Die run 24/7 stable. CPU speed by the way is now 4.25Ghz, not 4Ghz.

Ryzen 7 1700 at £149.99 at the moment the best bang for the buck?
Ive seen a 2600x today for £179 and not a direct comparison because of the cores I can't quite decide if the newer tech is worthwhile.

I am coming from an i5-2300 so either is going to (I hope) a huge upgrade, mainly use my PC for Hyper-V, bit of photoshop, Football Manager and general browsing.

Looking at pairing either CPU with;
Gigabyte B450M-DS3H AMD B450 (Socket AM4) DDR4 Micro-ATX Motherboard
Team Group Vulcan T-Force 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-24000C16 3000MHz Dual Channel Kit

Looking for a fairly cheap but solid upgrade for my PC. I don't need many fancy motherboard features hence the choice and my case is m-atx. I have also chosen what looks like fairly solid RAM but I see that jumping to 3200mhz could have its benefits?

Cheers for the suggestion, any reason why the 2600x?

In my mind I am thinking grab the extra cores and threads now, as you can see from my current PC. I do keep it a long time!
