I can't say I'm too concerned really. I only drive my wifes <£1k run around or my company car at this time of year anyway.

Personally I'd rather rock salt wasn't used on the roads though.

Carry on as normal you'd have to be right up behind one to get chips from them gritting, If I get stuck behind one I'll drop back and leave a decent size gap.

I hope you hit some black ice at high speed then we can laugh at your upside down car whilst admiring your stonechip free bonnet.

Keep well back and in icy conditions try to avoid back roads which are most likely not treated.

I’m sure neither your wife’s runaround or your company car isn’t immune to ice on the roads and equally you’d soon complain if rock salt wasn’t used - have a read.

There’s a damn good reason they use rock salt.

Keeping well back doesn't work if one comes past you in the other direction :p Once had a screen chipped by a spreader coming the other way, decided for my screen excess it wasn't worth the stress of trying to prove the gritter was to blame.

Not much you can do about that alas - part of the necessary evil ultimately.

I know there is, it's cheap. Anyway, there are several alternatives being tested in localised area so my hope is that at some point an alternative will emerge.

Just to be clear, my comment about not being too concerned was with regard to the damage it does.

No grit and driving aids disabled is the motors way.
You joke, but most driving aids make driving on snow worse from my experience. I do tend to turn traction control off when driving on proper snow (like up the Alps).

But I’m happy for icy roads to be gritted!

What an ayyhole!

I have ploughed through the spray of a gritterr at speed on many occasions and have yet to identify an associated chip. I think it disintegrates on contact rather than cause damage.

Although I suppose of you’re one of the many people who rent their car rather than own it, you would be nervous about damaging someone else’s car.
