Thot Audit

I think anyone who computer games after about the age of 19 needs mental help.

I've never understood it being slightly older, a pure waste of time when you could be learning new skills, new languages etc. It is the ultimate modern day two fingers to bettering oneself.

now you need to show your workings - what great endeavours have have you accomplished with your non-gaming time?

Taught myself calculus, particle physics, German and a few other things.

But plenty of people learn calculus and at least some German and particle physics in high school/6th form, during the day time on weekdays, with plenty of free time to play video games etc..

Steady on Brian Cox.

Dont get me wrong, my maths is weak, I cant prove the uncertaintly principle or Einstiens relativity etc in maths, so pretty rubbish, but I have a solid understanding of the standard model etc, and Muons, Muonic Hydrogen, and wave particle duality.... keeps me awake at night, and Id love to switch career to physics/Cosmology.

Things have moved on since my education where none of the modern definitions of the Copenhagen interpretation were taught....sigh.

Without the degree, PHD and any form of qualifications it is not more useful than self-fulfillment, just like any form of entertainment. It's not like you can get a job with your arm-chair physics skills.

Indeed, which is why I am totally undecided what to do! Everyone should try and follow their passions I guess.

Then a job in the gaming industry should be a priority, to help entertain those who are unable to do anything more productive.

Not everyone wants to have a career involving their passion (indeed, not all passions are career-able).

I have a passion for dance music and DJing, but that is a ridiculously difficult thing to make a career out of, so it is my hobby when I am not at work. I also spend my free time gaming and watching tv/films, clearly wasting my life huh? :p

You've just got to keep on grinding with that tbh... the problem might partly be because you've been self studying, you're going through a process of reading stuff that interests you whereas someone studying physics/applied maths at uni has already perhaps been through two years of a-level maths/further maths where they've tackled a load of problems/exercises repeatedly and then various maths modules in uni too with weekly exercises etc.. so they'll have built up a certain level of mathematical maturity.

You could always undertake a part time maths or physics degree and then look at trying to go for an MSc or PhD course full time.
