Some posters seem to think it doesn't matter how many goals there are in each half![]()
Assuming there were 5 goals scored in the first half and 20 in the second half then of course we can answer: (3 + 7)/(5 + 20) = 2/5
The question asks for the fraction of the total goals. Which is 10 out of 25. Not 2 out of 5.
10/25 is 2/5, just simplify the fraction
It's not a fraction.
The question asks for the fraction
The answer is not a fraction.
What? Are you trolling or something? If not then please review how to simplify fractions:

The question is using the word fraction as a synonym for portion.
I know full well how to simplify fractions, but doing so here isn't correct.
You're not making much sense here, please link to a clear definition of what you're referring to here by "portion" and why it can't be written as 2/5
the question specifies that the answer contains the amount of total goals.
10/25, not 2/5.
Right okay, so we've established that ratios in the question aren't fractions, but you want to give the answer as a fraction and simplify it.
Fail.
The question literally asks for a fraction as the answer.
Yes, the fraction of the total goals. Which is 10 out of 25 goals. Not 2 out of 5 goals.
