£50k - what sports car?

Nobody buys a car like that thinking it's going to be cheap. It's not a ford focus at the end of the day.
I think many do actually. They apply man maths, that special thing we use to justify silly purchases and go in with a mindset of "all being well based on what I have read" then do an engine, gearbox etc and have to make some tough decisions. As you rightly said, warranty is vital and to me that MUST be a manufacturers one if it can be.

I have noticed of late that every-other post you make references to expensive cars other people own, you never used to post like this, what gives?
Hmm, fair cop I guess, I suppose these days I know more people with very much more money than I, some are friends of friends some friends of family.

I’ll try to reign it in.

Great shout and a superb car.

It's certainly something special, and you can get a really quality example for 50K. Though, the Burmester option is extraordinarily rare (but worth it over the Bose imo)

Would have this over an R8 for sure, and this is someone who owns one of the original concept drawings for it - has been a long time favourite car, but the Cayman, at that price, is better in every way for me.

Having a look at all of the above.

I think R8 is out.
911 or Cayman is in.
Vantage is in.

Tesla....just been looking at a work colleagues one......they are wider than the R8!!!

Tesla is just some car. Yes they are quick, yes they are electric....but they are not a sports car or special.

You won't get a good R8 V10 with the good spec/gearbox and low miles for your budget, so you are wise to park that idea. I think a 911 or Cayman is a good place to be and will work really well around London too as they are common and suited to city life too, a great all round sports car for a good reason. Cayman GTS is a great car and you should go and drive one, but if you can find a really nice end of line 997 GTS of early 991 I think that would be my comfortable place based on your budget. Others can comment on the V8 Vantage with a more informed view than me, but I would not take one over a 911 if I wanted to enjoy the driving aspect as a priority, 911 is the better drive, Cayman GTS perhaps even better.

Too add I can see the appeal of the Renault, but not convinced I would buy one over a Cayman.

ahh just checked, definitely meant the 600, for some reason I thought they did a version which looked as modern but cheaper. Google imaged the M400, looks tragic, slightly face-lifted look compared to the original Noble with the Mondeo lights, not even close to V10 R10, so I hereby withdraw the M600 recommendation, had no idea they were that pricey 2nd hand!

Edit:- Might have been thinking of the M15.....

You could get a nice 4.7 Vantage for your budget from an Aston dealer. A quick nose around suggests a 2011-2014 for that budget.

I do a similar mileage (2-4K a year) in mine. Also live in a city and it’s also manual. As I don’t drive mine daily, I don’t mind the manual box at all, and it really adds to the experience when I’m out of town.

The 4.7 is a well sorted car, and although a 2 seater, has loads of space. I’ve done a few trips to France/Belgium in it with 2 of us and our dog, and it has enough space for a few boxes of wine on the way back (the hatch is very practical and there’s a lot of space behind the seats).

Clutch is about £3k at a dealer, and can throw up the odd expensive bill, but they are generally well built cars.

Very special feeling cars and always an event to drive.

If you can stretch to £60-65k, then you’re in V12V territory which are on another level.

50k.. my list would be.

Vantage v8
Cayman S 981, poss GTS
997.2 S if you can live with the ICE, however you’d have your choice at this price point.
991.1 non S, but your at the bottom end here.

Cayman or vantage. Drive them, very different!

I ended up looking for a cayman and bought a 911, you have been warned lol.

I was just checking to see if the Porsche Boxster 981 Spyder was in budget, it seems a bit over (some a lot more) than what I thought.

Such a beautiful car in my opinion though.
