ryzen 1400 +b350/b450+ 8gb should be had for £250 -

ryzen 1400 = £105
B450 mobo = £75
8GB 3000hz vulcan ram = £53

going B chipset mother board instead of A320 would allow you to overclock the CPU and gain some performance :)

ryzen 1400 brings it inline with i3 8100
 
By going for a B-grade cpu and motherboard I can get it within £3.50 of the new budget by the time postage is added on. This gets you a Ryzen 5 2600 which comes with a decent cooler and a Gigabyte AB350 Gaming motherboard so that you can overclock. It's a full size atx board as well and it looks quite good. Being B-grade though the board may just come by itself with no accessories at all. Or Gigabyte rep Giga-man may be able to get hold of a I/O shield for you if it doesn't come with one.

Still can't get any better than the i3 8100 on the Intel side though because of the silly prices of the cpu's.
 
Crap, completely forgot about the bios. That could be the reason why it was returned. Like you say though, Gigabyte will flash it for you. Don't they pay for collection and delivery back as well?

I think you post it to them and they'll send it back , though some have had it collected- as being its collected when its collected sort of thing . should be able to get that box in royal mail 2nd postage :D

prob reason why new Gigabyte boards, top end at least have removable bis chips . would make life easier in future

for £250 all in. damn good spot
 
my system in sig plays wow mostly over 100fps, but i was having driver issues, so given the 1200 is better than the 6600, your good to go although being able to get the 1400 under £100, so not much more than the 1200, your better off with that one instead.

Maybe it's people who don't have a clue or people stuck on the platform that don't want the expense of a new motherboard and DDR4. It wasn't very good when it launched and I can't see why anyone would recommend one now. It's old outdated tech that has been replaced by a vastly superior line up. I have said this to you before, it's not your money you are spending. We tend to do out best on here to get whoever is asking the very best performance for their money not old outdated rubbish that get's left way behind a modern platform. If it was your money you can do what you like with it but it isn't. Rather than dragging this out like you always do and providing selected benchmarks and other stuff that tries to prove your point why don't you just admit you were wrong and let it go.

There is only one wrong with FX. It was launched many years ahead of its time and only now it begins to show its value and purpose. Nothing wrong the people who buy it, too.
I object here because you are giving a quad core alternative which although has better single thread, overall is a much worse CPU.

Talk about a blinkered viewpoint. The church of AMD is strong in you. At least with Ryzen he has a upgrade path, something he won't have with the dead FX platform and a truly terrible motherboard. Did you not see the 2600 and B350 board I found for his increased budget?

I got it to admit that intel had a better processor. Since then, I've been blocked... :cool: clearly it is somewhat butthurt

Also down to #2, getting it arse kicked my the Ryzen 2600 now.
 
@tamzzy I am surprised he hasn't already blocked me after calling him out on terrible psu choices. :D:D I would block him but then I would miss all the awful advice he gives for spending other peoples money and then seeing him get called out on it. I have to be fair though, he is getting better and every now and then he does give some good advice. He just needs to get that "everything AMD is holy" chip off his shoulder.
