What is high mileage for a sports car?

Hey all,

Currently looking to replace my weekend car, I have seen a nice Z4 35is in a gorgeous colour with mileage in the 50k range with just one owner from 2011. Now typically I always try to get sports cars around the 30k mile mark or less if I can. 50k really feels quite high to me, Are cars with 80-90k miles on sell-able? What are your thoughts guys?

How old is the car? 10 years that's 5k a year which is nothing. What is the car too? If its a proper sports car like an exige then yes 50k is a decent amount as they don't make good daily drives. If its a Boxster or a Cayman or even an F-Type V6 then they could easily be used as a daily driver.

Oops sorry, edited OP. It is 8 years old, and its a BMW Z4 35is with the N54. Weekend only car
 
What is it?

If its a Mazda MX5 this is low mileage. If its a Ferrari 488 it's high mileage and you might have trouble selling it on.
 
My daily car is a sports car and is approaching 60k. It still looks and drives like new.

Even wear parts last ages, it was still on the original rear disks until a couple of months ago.

Lol 50k is nothing. Just make sure you don't pay over the odds for it and you'll absolutely be able to sell it with 80k mikes on. You can sell a car with any mileage on, at the right price.

The only people who need to worry about not being able to sell it on are those who grossly overpaid when they bought it and expect someone to overpay when they sell it.
 
My bosses 2011 Ferrari 458 is on 28k which I thought relatively high for the type of car, that said he drives it all year round, 28k is low for a ~7 year old run of the mill car so I guess his is somewhere in the middle?
 
How long do you plan to keep it for? And how many miles will you put on it - i think you've said weekend only car, but that could be long drives upto the Scottish Highlands every other weekend, or just for nipping to the shops.

If you're only doing a couple of K a year in it, then by the time it's 10 years old it'll seem like it's low mileage again. Obviously if you're doing 10k a year then it'll add up much quicker.
 
My E85 Z4 is currently on 111k and runs as good as it ever has in my ownership. It's not like they're particularly highly strung engines or uncomfortable daily cars like a Ferrari or Lotus, respectively.

The E89 is more of a GT car I'd say, a lot more comfortable than the E85 generation.
 
Dont forget that the Z4 is basically a BMW 3 series underneath. So it's not a finely tuned exotic machine, it's quite capable of being used like a normal car for normal mileage.

No? Unless you're one of these people who seem to love quoting "miles per year" (which unless is unusual and can give a pointer to a particularly easy life, is meaningless), if the mileage is high, the mileage is high regardless of age.
 
Normal sporty car 10k per year is fine. Evan a 911 with 40k Miles is easy to sell.

On the other hand my lambo has 40k and I could not move it for love nor money.

Well that’s exactly my point isn’t it? - a 30yr old car with 120k under its wheels is by definition low mileage given it’s averaged 4K p/a so as you say points to an easy pampered existence.

Not to mention - with correct maintenance and servicing - pretty much any car - Sports or otherwise - built in 1988 would cover 120k with ease and be far from the end of its useful life.
 
Regardless of how many miles have been covered per year, the mileage of the car is still the mileage of the car. Of course high mileage in central london would be a lot worse than just commuter mileage at the same odometer reading, as the engine and clutch/gearbox will have spent more time being operated.
 
50k is nothing lol.

my lexus is tickling 115k and no issues with it at all... modern engines can take the miles.
