Local Aldi has card readers that now fail ~100% to read my Lloyds bank card, which works fine everywhere else.

Are some readers just poorly maintained, badly adjusted, or, with high use of contactless, have they just stopped updating archaic equipment ?

update -clarifying
all readers in that store fail - does not 'see' the card when you insert it.
maybe this model is unreliable ?
personnel don't acknowledge that other customers have issues

Is it not just a knackered reader e.g an isolated case?

I've not had any problems with contactless at Aldi although I haven't been for about a month.

Also with years of retail experience, in-store IT isn't monitored for faults or downtime and things only get fixed if and when reported.

One of my cards never works in the local Coop, always have to put it in the machine manually. It works fine everywhere else, just not the coop

Went to Argos last week and they had big stickers on every card terminal at the tills saying they were not contactless. Argos must the only place I've been in the last 3 years that haven't had contactless. Cheapskates.

VX 820 Chip readers often get jammed. If you push the card firmly into the reader and hold it, it normally works. Same thing happened with mine at Morrison's outside payment terminal.

How can it be archaic if it's contactless, did that not come in around 2012 or later. Can you mod an existing system to add contactless, I doubt it, needs a brand new terminal.

Looking at pic people do like there card pin numbers to be low ..

Could just been problem at the time happened to me in ASDA week wouldn't take my debit card via tap or pin was a Natwest card had to use may starling card. Worked fine the next day

All the card reader issues I had went away when I got a new card so guess the chip was slightly damaged.

Talking of contactless, does the range differ between card readers? Was in a co-op the other day and it seemed to read the card from miles away, usually it needs to pressed to the screen.
