With everything that is going on in the world, it seems that Parliament sees fit to devote its efforts in order to prohibit something that nobody does anyway!

It is a bit like the Blair government passing a law to prohibit the creation of a Nuclear explosion!

I mean, what was the situation before this Law was passed?

Officer 1: "Oh Look, that man has just detonated a Nuclear Bomb"

Officer 2: "Ah, But. Nobody has been hurt and no criminal damage has been caused"

Officer 1: "Oh, that's alright then"

Back to the daft legislation being currently discussed. Anybody who did want to eat Dog-meat would probabally do so anyway regardless of what legislation was passed./

And in any case, though I find the idea of eating Dog, Cat or even Horse distasteful, I can see no logic for regarding it as somehow wrong, as long as the animals are treated humanly during their lives and when they are slaughtered for the pot! Just like any other livestock.

(I know somebody who lived in Singapore for a while and I am told that Dog is actually pretty damn tasty! )

Dogs protect us, comfort us, help us and enrich our lives. It’s a bit of a kick in the teeth to eat them in return.

We coevolved with dogs, they're not generally raised as livestock.

the reason we don't eat dog or cat doesn't really have anything to do with them being fluffy pets though, it's because they're carnivores and we don't tend to eat carnivores for the reasons which are broadly outlined here:

People keep bunnies but still eat rabbit.

To reference the OP, there's nothing wrong with eating horse. only reason we don't is they're expensive and a bit difficult to keep. They're pretty tasty actually.
