Looking For an Excuse to NOT buy an RTX 2080

I think the biggest excuse is simply that the technology isn't ready yet.

It's in a few games and coming to more but the difference at the moment is not that great.

It needs more development time.

---

I want to upgrade to a 2080 as well. Metro Exodus could have been that game to push me over the edge. But it seems it isn't really adding that much to the game that warrants spending £650 for the GPU and probably another £150 to upgrade my PSU.

Probably* best to wait a generation.

But then I want to see what fps I'll get at 1440p before I make a definitive decision.

I'd definitely buy one at that price too. Where on Earth did you pick one up so cheaply?
Gumtree, the guy was in need of a quick sale due to a baby coming along so I was like I'll have that even though I was happy with my cheap 1080 I got, I couldn't let a Ti slip away for that price!

1080 seems to get around 45 fps at 1440p in Ultra. So possible 60 fps if you drop some details.

I've just done the upgrade from 1070 (non Ti) to 2080. At 2560 x 1440, I think a 1070 is really still very good.

I'm on an ultrawide monitor (3440 x 1440p). At this resolution, the 1070 still did pretty well, but the 2080 is more suitable and i'm loving the higher fps so no regrets

I got the EVGA 2080 XC for £650 + BF5 and Anthem games. Hopefully if I can sell these and my 1070 the upgrade will have cost about £350.

If I were you, at that res, I'd give it another year to see what crops up :)
Interested to hear what sort of FPS you were getting before and after upgrade? I'm still bumbling along with a 970 at 1440p and it's charging towards unenjoyable in a lot of games now.

I had a 970 prior to upgrading to a 1080. Your looking at a 2x increase to a 1080 level card. Going to a 2080 level card is gonna be about another 30% on top of that.

I've decided to wait.
Nvidia have gotten greedy and although I want a new card I can't willingly encourage that type of marketing.
I'll wait to see how Navi pans out.

I'm using a 1070 @ 1440p with a i7-6700. I was toying with upgrading this gen but it's just too expensive for fairly limited gains. The new features seem to be a bit of a work in progress still so don't fancy paying the early adopter tax.

Got a new 2k monitor and loving it. Now I'm wanting a 2080 to drive it but I have a 1070 ATM (non ti) which is doing ok.
I know I don't want to spend that kind of money but I've got that urge, you know that urge we get as pathetic followers of the PC path?
Next year or even the end of this year may see 7nm GPU's from nVIDIA and no doubt I'll then be kicking myself if I buy a 2080 now.
I'm not a rich guy, I'm not well poor. I'm an average earner that saves money for PC parts. It's a hobby.
I need someone to convince me NOT to buy :)

Christ almighty, just buy it if you want it, if you dont want it, dont buy it.

Do you need help getting dressed in the morning too ?

I'll repost without the deleted content. Why so abusive? There's no need for snide comment. Do YOU need help understanding that I was just sparking up a conversation?
Thanks for your stellar input :p

I would, but the kids are already complaining about having bread and water more than four times a week:D
haha, I am in the same boat as the OP. I just cant seem to pull the trigger. The amount of times I have had a 2080ti in my basket is stupid. But then I think that booking Vegas for me and wife for a week has cost less and chicken out.

Don’t bother , you have a 1080ti....pointless expenditure for a measly 35%

I know I'm like a dog with a bone though which exactly why I stopped PC gaming 15 years ago lol. Prices were bad then but now they are insane

That says a lot...Trip with you and the wife to Vegas, or a graphics card. Madness.
